I'm just wondering what interests people outside of music. What are your hobbies, what other sorts of entertainment do you enjoy? This being a music forum, the majority of topics and posts are about music (other than perhaps in the Just For Fun section which I rarely visit).

I listen to music quite regularly but it's not my main pastime. Over the last year I've been more likely to be listening to podcasts than albums -- especially the Sam Harris "Waking Up" podcast and the Very Bad Wizards podcast. I find it interesting that podcasts have been around for so long, yet it's only quite recently, partially because of better technology that it has become a very popular medium.

I used to read books a great deal, that definitely was my main form of entertainment as well as for exploring subjects, but having some eye problems I don't read books nearly so much. I still read online and spend a lot of time reading on my computer for my work.

I'm also very into Sci-Fi TV shows and films. For a long time I was mostly a non-English language arthouse film kind of guy, but I've gone back to my childhood somewhat by getting back into Sci-Fi (and related) in a big way. I do love British comedies too, and watch drama shows that are not sci-fi or in the realm of the fantastic.

Other than that, I love sailing and kayaking when I get the chance, hiking, climbing, skiing, and mountain biking, but I've become far too sedentary and my body tires out and gets more sore than when I was younger. I definitely need to improve my physical, as well as mental, fitness.

Like others, another hobby I have is posting and reading posts, but I don't spend as much time on boards as I used to. When I started posting (years before joining here) I treated each post as if it would be graded, and used to have really involved debates that required precision, but started to enjoy more relaxed intercourse (I especially can find it a chore when it becomes anal as I prefer a more free-slowing and sloppier exchange of ideas partially because my mind is not as sharp as it once was). I have had some debates at another forum which I sometimes post at, but it's been ages seen I had a really involved. time consuming debate at this site (has rarely here but that's because this board is focused on music rather than politics, ideology...).

So what about you? Additionally, are you involved in other online communities or groups that get together in person? I want to spend more time socialising and have joined a Humanist Group that meets once a week, but since it is quite the drive I have not been attending.

Back in the day, my life revolved around playing cricket. However, I retired when my son was born 16 years ago, and have only played once since. I do try to get out on the golf course as much as I can, but work prevents too many trips.

I read a lot, and love this. I work extremely hard, and enjoy that. When home, not travelling with work, my son and I walk the dog and, conveniently, stop off at the village pub for a couple of pints as it is half way on said walk

My wife and I play bowls, friendly, in the village hall weekly, and despatch ourselves to the pub for food and pool after every Thursday. I meet two great friends for drinks and chat each and every Friday in Carmarthen.

I like gardening, and also watching sport, especially rugby, football, and cricket.

All in all, I live an idyllic, happy, life, and love each moment of it.

Prog, work, sport, drinks, family, routine. I am a very lucky man

Recording music has been my life's work. All else is family, friends and foes. You know...life. Big smile

Writing and reading poetry at open floors.
This Friday however I will be branching out into music by taking my acoustic bass along to do a poetry music hybrid.
Came up with a way of fusing the alphabet with fretboard. So instead of E, A, D, G it's
A F K P and I'll be doing acrostic acoustic stuff shouting the words when I play the note that represents the letter.
I intend to film it on my Tablet and good or bad it's going up on YouTube.

What could possibly go wrong?...

I like to read and watch movies and television, but I am pretty mainstream in those regards.  Not into subtitles or old black and white movies.  Definitely prefer easy reading to War and Peace.

A big sports fan of the 4 major US sports, but who I am kidding, if I am mindlessly watching the boob tube I will watch bowling or track and field or winter sports if the mood strikes me.  I always get into the Olympics every time even when I could care less about most of the events the rest of the years.   I don't really participate in sports much anymore as I am an obese American who needs too much work to get into better shape.

I live near the Motor City where everybody are Gearheads and every other house owns a classic automobile but I've never really seen the appeal myself.  I like viewing old cars on the road, but don't go out of my way to attend the Auto Show or the Woodward Dream Cruise, as neither really appeal to me.

I'm a (contemporary classical) composer and a reluctant university music student, so outside of that compulsive day to day pattern I actually write screenplays, experiment with photography, keep up fitness via walking regularly and do a lot of reading

I look to cook...that doesn't mean I'm very good at it..

I love watching films, going to comedy nights. I play tennis and badminton, go to the gym and pilates classes. I used to write a lot yeas ago; short stories mainly, but don't seem to have the time these days. It's smething I'd like to have the time to resume this particular hobby.

I should probably read more.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

^ twenty-two! Impressive.

Two of mine are near age 10 and I really hope they'll reach 15. 22 would be very nice, though.

Apparently we have a bunch of perverts here.......  ;)

Besides getting into prog and classic rock ,etc.....I enjoy reading especially sci-fi and any 'weird' fiction.
Sometimes non fiction also....if they are about odd events or strange history.
Like Logan, I also enjoy  various sci-fi and fantasy programs on cable tv .

I have a few forums I post on about ufos and the paranormal.....but these days it seems that the conversation is getting redundant and not well informed.
One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.

Reading books
Collecting books of early photography, and German architecture
Meditating and Mindfulness (though not as much as I should, really)
Watching my collection of dvds, with my favourite collections being the original Star Trek series, the series One Step Beyond, and classic science fiction films, like 2001, The Planet Of the Apes, The Day The Earth Stood Still
