My favorite post 70's prog band by a mile...no one else even comes close.  Very tough choosing just 1 album.  Got into them in the late 80's...Lush Attic was my 1st and remains my fave (with The Enemy Smacks as one of my fave prog songs of all time) so gets the vote.   Ya, the Menel years were rough, but talk about a prog band that rebounded strong and just keeps getting better and better with age Thumbs Up

I really don't like the idea of The Seventh House not having any votes , so it got mine.

I would rank as follows

1. The Wake
2. Ever
3. Frequency
4. Tales From The Lush Attic
5. The Road Of Bones
6. The Seventh House
7. Are You Sitting Comfortably?
8. Subterranea
9. Dark Matter
10. Seven Stories Into Ninety Eight
11. Nomzamo

Dark Matter has always been overrated in my book although the live versions on one of the DVD's where Andy Edwards plays on are superb. Frequency kicks serious arse. Only one vote? Really??!

For some reason this one is rather easy for me: Dark Matter wins. And then The Road Of Bones, Subterranea and The Seventh House.

The tight rhythm section of Andy Edwards & John Jowitt does the trick for me.
Hence Frequency.

Interesting reading so far, thanks everybodySmile

I was suprised to see so few votes for The Seventh House and Frequency, and so many for Dark Matter.  I'm not sure why, but I struggled with DM when I first heard it, and it wouldn't be in my top 5, but the opening and closing tracks are 2 of their best.

As for The Menel years: well, that's where I came in with IQ, so those 2 albums are very important to me, and I still think they are brilliant albums - yes, more poppy, but AYSC is very consistent, and although there are a couple of tracks on Nomzamo that are probably the bands' weakest (you know what they are), overall it's a fabulous album, and in Common Ground you have one of my favourite songs of all time.

Harvest of Souls is a monster epic and had  a lot to do with my renewed interest in Prog music in recent years

Nomzamo is probably the best 'worst album' any artist has ever released such is the high standard of their releases.

Menel is a great wordsmith and should be greatly respected for his contribution to IQ. He released a solo album not long ago. I like it even though its strictly pop not prog.

Subtteranea by a small margin over Dark Matter but all the others - apart from Nom Zamo and Are you sitting comfortably are all very close behind the top two. And even Nom-zamo has two outstanding tracks as does AYSC.

The music is great, but it has some absolutely cringe-worthy lyrics. The part that starts with "The sky lights up above America" and ends with "We will shoot you where you stand" almost makes me want to turn it off, it's so bad.

Subterranea for me.

I think these are one of those bands where it's nearly impossible to pick a favorite, although I am relatively new to them.

I adore 'The Wake' and have played it incessantly ever since the early 80s. After that, I find I really like most of them and they change places depending on my mood at the time. A big shout for Frequency, Dark Matter and Subterranea. I lIke Road of Bones a lot too, although interestingly it was the bonus CD tracks which at times was even stronger than the main concept CD. Not much to choose between with this band - surprisingly consistent. I know they are like marmite for some - love or hate them - but I've always been a fan!

Just wish they'd play more up here in the North of England these days. Getting down south for the Christmas gigs Is never easy at that time of the year.
