Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and would like to get some recommendations on modern Scandinavian prog bands. Stuff I'm already into include The Flower Kings, Ritual, Kaipa, Pain of Salvation etc.. I would be most grateful if you could recommend some other artists/bands. Thanks! /Schnatz

Wobbler - Rites at Dawn. One of my absolute top favorite Scandinavian albums ever made. A timless classic. The new album is also good but it's yet to grow on me. I gotta give the songs one or two more spins.

If you try and like Anglagard and Wobbler (both are pretty different from the bands you listed as liking, though) then you should also try Jordsjo, which sits nicely between the two, at least to my ears.

i would reccomend Rituals - The Hemulic Voulentary Band, very passionate and hits soft spot for fans of Moomin.
Also Mew is a band i never can not give PR for , Frangers is just such a remarkable album. Gåte is a band whom also i dare folks to check out. Edited by Icarium - November 08 2017 at 20:51 |

I just heard and got Soup's last album (remedies) and was really pleasantly surprised for the extremely beautiful music from this mostly unknown band, even withing prog circles.

Beardfish are one of my favourite prog bands. Some Zappa-esque quirkiness thrown in for good laughs. I also recommend the latest album from leader Rikard Sjöblom's Gungfly. Now that Beardfish are sadly no longer going, this is the closest we'll get to new Beardfish material. It definitely continues in that trend.

For me Wobbler and White Willow......big fan of Rites At Dawn by Wobbler.......I probably have played it too often over the last few years.....but it creates a really nice mood in it's pastoral prog and mysticism.

Another Norwegian band, Major Parkinson. They just released a new album, Blackbox, a few weeks ago and it has definite album of the year potential.

With magic, you can turn a frog into a prince.
With science, you can turn a frog into a Ph.D. and you still have the frog you started with. |
