First heard Permanent Waves peeling potatoes in the army. Outside of Natural Science, it stayed in that kitchen forever. Signals out-finesses its competitor's odd, creaky middle ground between its old sound and new beginnings. For Rush, not a go to album for me.

I'm surprised Signals is scoring so poorly. It's one of their very best albums to me which I play a bit more than Permanent Waves (not that I voted for it here but it's closer than the vote indicates).

Waves, no contest. In my book it's #1 Rush album, while Signals is probably #8.
It's really tough to beat this quartet of great songs: Freewill, Natural Science, Spirit of the Radio and Jacob's Ladder.

Had to go Permanent Waves. Freewill is about as good an example of shifting time signatures as you will find anywhere.

Permanent Waves - they got the instrumental balance right. More consistent too.

Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.

Again... not as big a Rush fan as many on the forum. For me their songs and albums can be hit or miss at times. But here I'll go for Waves....perhaps my favorite one by them next to Pictures....Signals only hits with Subdivisions imo , the other tracks are just ok imho......and if you put that one track on Pics then you would have a 5 star in Moving Pictures. I'll duck behind the wall while all the Rush fan boys start throwing rocks. ;)

Permanent Waves, but this one is very close (Permanent Waves ranks #3, Signals #4 in my Rush list).

Rush changed Genre's with Signals. As did genesis with ATTWT. Signals is unadulterated old-man poo mixed with dead-badger carcasses......

PW for me. Signals is a fine album but overall Waves just does it for me more.
