'From Arbiter of taste to devil's advocate to national treasure..' I certainly didn't share all of Peel's musical tastes and despite his seeming egotism and sneering attitude towards certain bands, he discovered and championed many, many superb bands and artists across the years and genres and also championed a 'do it yourself' ethos that is absolutely essential balance against over-blown pomposity. He was, it seems, a genuinely warm family man.
