 Topic: Lesser Known 1973/74 Albums

After combing the PA database (and a book called, "The Progressive Rock Files") the past 3 or 4 years for prospects, I now have an interesting collection of 1973/74 albums by what I call "lesser known" prog bands. I'm wondering how many other PA members have discovered these obscure albums as well? This is a multiple choice poll, so please feel free to vote for all your favorites and tell us how you discovered them, etc...

Know about a third of these. Of the ones I do know, I'd probably rank them as follows:
Osanna > Quarteto 1111 > Quella Vecchia Locanda > Campo Di Marte > Cavern > Axis > Garybaldi > Pierrot Lunaire
I'd consider all of these 3-5 star albums; Pierrot Lunaire is probably the only one I don't really care for. Even though Palepoli is my favourite, I voted for Quarteto 1111, though, as I imagine Osanna will rack up a lot of votes pretty quickly.

Multiple voting was not enabled, but no need to in my oponion, one can list all one's favourites in a post.
I voted for Jean Cohen-Solal's Captain Tarthopom, but also would choose Pierrot Lunaire's Pierrot Lunaire (my favourite PL is Gudrun), Osanna's Palepoli, and the Quarteto 1111.

Just noticed Palepoli was a 1972 not 1973 release...sorry about that. And I apparently forgot to make the poll multiple choice...all fixed now. That's what I get for creating a poll first thing in the morning  Anyway, I've listened to all of these at least 3 or 4 times and have formed some pretty solid opinions. The only ones I'm not too crazy about are Axis, Vindication, Quella Vecchia Locanda, Astrolabio & Lift...they're not bad, they just seem a step down from the others. My favorites in no specific order are... Fruup Esperanto Captain Tarthopom Mona Lisa Spektakel Hora Nata Of these, I think Fruup, Esperanto and Hora Nata could really develop into 5 star albums for me with repeated listening. Last but not least, my absolute #1 is Quarteto 1111! My fellow Portuguese countryman Meltdowner turned me on to this album last year and was he ever on target! The recording quality is a bit rough, but it's absolutely drenched in mellotron, consists of a single song broken up into 2 album sides (apparently a prog requirement in 1973 :-) and the vocals of Jose Cid remind me a lot of a Portuguese version of Christian DeCamps from Ange. Fantástico, maravilhoso, incrível, eu amo ele!

I own the Italian ones, however I've only heard of 2 of the others. Pretty obscure stuff for sure.
I discovered the Italian bands on Prog Archives. I've been into Goblin for decades because of the Argento connection, then I started buying the top rated Italian albums off progarchives and now I'm about 75 Italian Prog albums in.

Those are the only ones I really know from the list and I have copies of those.....that Axis album has some really nice Canterburyish things going on....strange but good album
