Lesser Known 1973/74 Albums

After seeing it get so many votes, I decided to give the Pierrot Lunaire album several spins over the past couple days.  I just added it to my list of favorites and gave it a vote

I'm a little disappointed to be the only one to vote for Jean Cohen-Solal's Captain Tarthopom, I think its a wonderful album. I have spun his earlier Flûtes libres more over the years, which has wonderful Kosmische qualities (different, but I would recommend it to fans of Igor Wakhevitch's Docteur Faust). The Cohen-Solal is the most representative of my musical tastes here (at least of the ones I know -- love Pierrot Lunaire too) for its psych, jazz, and funk experimentation (Frenchy Komsmische qualities). For fans of flute and far-out and groovy music, I recommend giving his albums a spin. It had been too long since I last listened to his albums, so thanks for the reminder.

I'm listening to Captain Tartpom again and on Mémoire d'un Ventricule, and it's giving me chills. This kind of album really represents me, in sense. Incidentally, he is listed under Avant Prog, but I almost feel like we should have a new category to represent such music (one with with the likes of Igor Wakhevitch, Alain Goraguer, Karl Heinz Schäfer, Jean-Claude Vannier, Jean Pierre Mirouze, Stringtronics, and non-French artists such as Pierro Umiliani, Ennio Morricone, Cipriani, Piero Piccioni, Egisto Macchi, Vadimir Cosma, and various soundtrack composers). Not that workable a category; suffice to say, people into that kind of stuff might well enjoy Jean Cohen-Solal, but other kinds of musical associations can be made too.
