Topic: Favorite 21st Century Canterbury Band Posted: November 16 2017 at 19:25 |
Not all are pure--a lot of Crossover action here--but the Canterbury sound lives strong in these bands. Which one is your favorite? (Obviously there will be an advantage to bands that have released multiple albums.)
If you are any kind of fan of the original Canterbury sounds, take note of the bands with which you are unfamiliar: they are all worthy of your listening attention!

I only know 4 of those.... Amoeba, Antique, Manna and Syd Arthur ,but Amoeba Split is my pick of those.

Homunculus Res, Moogg, and Ameboa Split are all excellent and worthy of my vote.
I'll go with Moogg today.

Only know Amoeba Split, Magic Bus, and The Winstons, so I won't vote, but of those three Magic Bus has to be my favourite. Love the sort of Grateful Dead/Canterbury crossover that they have going on the debut.

As far as I know Beyond- O-Matic are a space/psych kind of band. Maybe there's two bands with the same name though. :)

Haven't listened to all of them, but The Winstons have really impressed me, so that's my vote today. I definitely need to check out Moogg, I've heard tons of great things about them. Also, one extremely interesting Canterbury style band that I believe sadly has not officially released anything during their time of existance is The Battleship, Ethel from Canada. There are, however, plenty of live clips on YouTube, as well as a few tracks of theirs on SoundCloud. Great poll! I definitely have some catching-up to do now.

Categories strain, crack and sometimes break, under their burden - step out of the space provided.

Good poll, there are many great bands here. My favorites would be Antique Seeking Nuns and The Winstons. I'll give it to the Nuns today, their 3 EPs are priceless.

Yeah, I was stretching a bit to include them but every time I listen to Relations in the Border Between I am reminded over and over of Canterbury bands--especially Gong.

Me, too. If that's the case, you'd be well rewarded by giving some of these bands a listen!

Agreed: Priceless! Their new form, Sanguine Hum, is good but I really, really loved the Nuns!

I'm so glad! Setna is, of course, considered a Zeuhl band but their Canterbury-sounding keyboards are undeniable. So glad you're giving them some love!

So glad people here know Inner Ear Brigade!
Surprised Violeta de Outono is getting no love yet. (Perhaps they don't fit my post topic since they debuted in the late 1980s.)

^ I love that Violeta debut, although there is no connection there with Canterbury. Their latest Spaces album is excellent.
