Seconded the reco's on Manna/Mirage, Schnauser & Suburban Savages, all good stuff. Manna / Mirage get the musical side right whereas Schnauser have the whimsical humor.

I read Schnauser's album titles and came to the same conclusion without hearing a peep of their music. 'Protein For Everyone'

Makes you think. How does Canterbury styled music figure in the all important macro restribution. Largely protein or is the at times frenetic and rather whimsical antics more likely down to an overconcentration of carbohydrates? One thing is for certain; Canterbury has always been a rather lean listen with but a handful of acts that reside in the more fatty regions of the soundspectrum. The way Wyatt's Rock Bottom gels forth probably suggests high dosages of lard...y'know the type that makes you comfortably dreary - like Christmas gravy thick as clay.

Thanks for this, Raffaella! I knew you'd have some more to offer (if you saw this poll). Though I don't think Suburban Savages (or Panzerpappa) belong here, and Big Hogg has a lot of maturing to do before I'd include them with these other bands, I am really looking forward to exploring Schnauser and Psychoyogi! |

My vote for Syd Arthur's first two albums; then Schnauser would be my pick if part of the poll; and a word for Setna if one like a mix of RIO / Zeulh / Canterbury.

Has Volaré released anything since 1999?

Nice choices. Now that I've heard the Schnauser albums I know I would have included one or two (especially Irritant).
