CCR, by a country mile! 👍👍
Ramble Tamble! I always knew their hits but only owned their double singles package Chronicles Vol. 1. About a year ago I explored their back catalogue and deeper album tracks, making a wicked playlist. Timeless stuff! I like a lot of Eagles, but John Fogerty and CCR were one of the very best sh*t-kickin, party time, quintessentially American rock and roll bands EVER. One of their hits like Down on the Corner will always get old and young out on the dance floor. Other songs of theirs had real lyrical depth, too. CCR are intrinsic to late 60s & early 70s western popular music. Along with the Beatles, they were one of the first bands I ever loved! Long may CCR's music rock on! This^ Between '69 and '70, CCR was the greatest American rock band with 7 straight singles charting in the top 5! Great stuff! |

Creedence for certain. The Eagles were superb musicians and singers for sure, but their ultra-polished and mainly fairly unadventurous material bores me pretty rapidly. CCR on the other hand I can listen to and dig all day long. In my world they are the definitive straight-ahead American rock band. They never failed to lay down a solid groove and the songs were consistently good (except when they were brilliant).

Below is a link to my CCR "deeper tracks" and Fogerty solo playlist. The only major CCR hit here is Who'll Stop the Rain.

I have loved CCR and never really got into the Eagles. I haven't listened to CCR a lot since I was a teen, but I still enjoy the band when I hear it. Being a film buff, CCR's music has also made into various memorable for me movies and movie scenes. It was used in Twilight Zone: The Movie, A Werewolf in London, The Big Lebowski and many others. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2045052/
As far as I remember, I first got into the band because of the music in A Werewolf in London and in The Twilight Zone movie (love that whole "You wanna see something really scary?" scene with Dan Ackroyd), and if it's good for the Dude.... And welcome back, Peter. |
