Nice list but Le Petit Violon is from 1976

Thanks for the corrections, not sure how I messed up Mona Lisa & Arachnoid Wacko

OTOH, PA lists Gialorgues as '77.  Also I always consider Netherworld a '78 release for a couple reasons.  I was in a San Jose area prog band called Elfhouse and we both recorded at Ayre Studios.  Ayre later took out an ad in '78 (or possible '79) thanking all the bands that recorded with them.  Netherworld and Elfhouse were both listed so I always thought they recorded their album the same time we recorded our demo.  Also, I'm pretty sure that's when I got hold of a test cassette of their upcoming album.  Now that I think about it, the cassette didn't have "Too hard to Forget" and "Maybe if they Burn me", which might have been recorded after 1980, but all the other songs on the album were present Wink

I'm into all these, but the best of the best that got my votes...

Pulsar (Halloween is an all time fave)
Cathedral (surprised this one's not getting more votes)
Anabelas (everyone knows about this one)
Mona Lisa (both albums)
Ange (the last truly great Ange album)
Ethos (much better than their debut album)
Netherworld (prefer the early release without "Too hard to Forget" and "Maybe if they Burn me")

I'll toss a vote to Shylock. A great underrated band.

Some fairly obscure ones up there.....I have about 10 of those......of them my  favorite is Circus-Moving On....great melodic jazzy eclectic  prog. I also like Cathedral-Stained Glass....nice symphonic stuff with many touches of Yes and KC etc....

Bubu is a top 3 album for me, period. Also voted for Island and Circus, but they aren't nearly in the same league (still pretty darn good, though).

Atmosphera and Jose Cid are also enjoyable, but I didn't feel compelled to vote for either. I'm unfamiliar with about half of the others, so I guess I have some listening to do!

By the way, Bubu is the name of the band not the album. ;)

Epdaurus and Bubu in that order. Plat Du Jour would have easily got my vote if it was there, also some others high on my two lists not mentioned... Arachaia, Smak, Atila, Weidorje, Rialzu, Zyma, Yoch'o Seffer, The Plastic People Of The Universe, Gebarvaterli, Nanu Urwerk, Arco Iris and Ose.

Truly an excellent album!  I didn't list it because I'd known about it before I discovered PA so didn't think it was obscure enough Wink

Greg Walker from synphonic put out a list several years ago of his favorite 100 prog albums. If you do a google search for "Greg Walker top 100 prog album list aural moon" it will probably show up first or second in the search results. It was initially posted on the aural moon website. Anyway, about 97 percent of the albums on his list are from the seventies and so it's a good compliment to what is being discussed here(much overlap as well).

Absolutely

Plat du Jour is phenomenal, but it's not the only glaring omission into lesser known albums:

I have only heard Anabelas and Guet-Apens from this list and I like both albums, putting Anabelas above Guet-Apens. Another one worth mentioing: Weidorje.

Great idea for a thread, by the way. Haven't heard many of these, but I would like to suggest SFF's Sunburst.

I have eight of them. Votes for Pulsar, Mona Lisa (Avant Qu'il Ne Soit Trop Tard), Epidermis, Bubu and Ange.

The Crucis, Itoiz and Los Jaivas mentioned above are between my favorites of that years.

Bubu, Cathedral (surprised this GREAT album has so few votes) and Island are my picks. The honorable mention goes to Circus and England.
Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.
