La Resistencia Progresiva Argentina, a group of prog bands from Buenos Aires, released last week their first collective artistic projecto: The Astral Platypus, a parody prog band that "has been releasing albums since the '60, each following the sound of it's era", accompanied by a miniseries telling the story of the band.

Episode 1 (spanish with english subtitles):

With the first episode they released the first two albums of the bands discography:

- La Marcha del Ornitorrinco Astral (1969), a parody to the fundational albums of the prog genre such as In the court... or The Yes Album

I’ve listened to the “1967” album. It’s good and the low quality of the sound is mimic of that age. It should have a place on PA

This kicks the snot out of Brian Pern. Excellently done. Just a shame about the Spanish thing, will keep a lot of people at bay.

The Astral Platypus are great!

It was crazy when news of this project started to appear on argentine prog media: the big blogs and radio shows (Cabeza de Mood, El Retorno del Gigante, Gigantes Gentiles, Los Especiales del Guardián de los Cielos, Mellotron, etc) started reposting a post about a band that was "deleted from the internet over a dispute with their record company".

The actual post, made by la Resistencia Progresiva Argentina, was hilarious. Robert Lynch  (bass player of the Astral Platypus) accused Edipus Records (now called Edipus Tampons, after leaving the music business un the 90's) of censorship, and denounced that it was a conspiracy against art itself, in an attempt to keep the population stupid in order to keep selling idiotic songs aboyt getting laid and big butts.

Obviously the prog media was in on the joke but a lot of people on the comment sections didn't catch it and they thought it was real.

To make things better La Resistencia Progresiva set up a fake Robert Lynch youtube account, where songs from different eras of the Platypus' discography started appearing. The first one was a prog number called Despertar, with fake vinyil sounds added. But shortly after songs from the psychedelic '60s or even the poppy '80s started popping out.

The comment sections went insane, all in awe of the music of this "forbidden" band. Some even put it in the level of Crucis (!!!!). But the madness raised one level when all this songs dissapeared the next day, "taken down by Edipus Records for copyright enfringment".

New songs replaced the older ones, but they continued to dissapear 24 hours after being posted. Prog media started intreviewing the members of the Astral Platypus (interviews so bizarre it was impossible they were true)

And this game continued for a month, until la Resistencia Progresiva Argentina announces the fake documentary and revealed the truth.

If any of you want I can look and translate some of this interviews, they are wonderful.

I think the Astral Platypus deserves a page on PA. It's a prog band, it's a project and even if it's a parody it's good music. Crossover?
