Which songs did you discover last year that were stuck in your head or became memorable for some reason? The ones that will make you remember of 2017 basically.
Only one of mine is on PA, despite always discovering new Prog, I didn't find any other addictive song from the genre. So, here's my 2017: Bruno Pernadas - Spaceway 70 Jorge Palma - Viagem Asgard - La Petite Hirondelle Taeko Ohnuki - 都会 Casiopea - Midnight Rendezvous Loosense - West Ghost

If I had to pick 5 songs to define my 2017, I'd probably go with these:
Don McLean - American Pie A definite classic, but one that I only actually got around to buying this year. If I had to think of one thing to remember 2017 by, musically-speaking, it would be the year that I fell in love with folk music. And this was one of the albums that got that ball rolling, in large part due to the brilliance of its opening number. Greg Graffin - Millport Building on the folk aspect that I mentioned above, this Americana number is probably my favourite track off of my favourite 2017 release. The lyrics conjure up some vivid imagery of the sorts of small towns that I used to visit frequently growing up out east, so, having gone through a pretty big move across the continent away from my hometown last year, this really stands out as a particularly nostalgic song. Harmonium - Si Doucement I've adored Harmonium for a while now, but it wasn't until this year that I picked up a copy of their debut, which probably became my most played album of 2017. And who can blame me? This album is perfect for any occasion. Family gathering? Entertaining guests? Driving through the country? Lazing around on a summer day? Sharing a moment with that special someone? Harmonium is a perfect soundtrack. While I probably could have put any of the equally brilliant tracks from the album on this list of favourites, I ended up picking this one since it takes me right back to my wonderful trip to Quebec City in July. Caravan - In The Land of Grey and Pink While my 2017 was filled with plenty of joy, there were also some long stretches that were a pretty tough grind with a lot of dreary days. But I could always depend on this song (and album) for a brief respite, with its warm, cozy atmosphere, and take some time to daydream about that carefree land where the punk weed grows. This one doesn't really have any deep significance like the others; it just kicks unbelievable amounts of ass.

My favourite album of the year is 'On We Sail' by The Samurai of Prog, and from that album is also my favourite song of 2017: 'Ghost written'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMhb2VyGOGA After I had heard the song for the first time the melody kept coming back to my mind, and I tried to figure out for a while which song that was. The difficulty here is that the song has two vocalists, Steve Unruh and Mark Trueack (whom I know from Unitopia and UPF), each with a distinct catchy chorus on its own: 'Resonating story, skipping space and time...' (Steve Unruh) 'Sound it out, sound it out loud...' (Mark Trueack) and it took me some time to realize that it is the same song that I have in my ear! |

I really need to listen to Harmonium's debut more often, great tune! I bought In The Land last year and heard it quite a few times. I didn't count it because I already knew it before.
