Topic: Fish vs Marillion Posted: January 14 2018 at 12:39 |
After Fish departed Marillion, they have both carried on. Which do you prefer, Fish's solo work or Marillion with Hogarth?

Fish's solo material by a very big (Scots) country mile

I agree. (Considering the huge amount of present day Marillion fans here this might sound shocking...)

Haven't been into or heard either for many years, but back in the day I would have chosen, Vigil and Internal Exile over Seasons End & Holidays in Eden by a mile

Tough poll. I think it's better I don't vote in this one. Fish with Marillion > better than anything either has done since, I'm afraid!

First poll I can't vote in - too close to call! Both have had great moments, but neither come close to when Fish and Marillion reigned.

Cannot choose, not because I like them so much, but because I feel both drop down a few notches. They have made some good music, but nothing to be called classic or amazing, just good music.

Fish, but the earlier Marillion work with Hogarth was pretty good (Holidays in Eden is one of my guilty pleasures).

Marillion easily. And Seasons End is the best album either variant of Marillion did.

This. Marillion has some truly great albums during the H-era. Some people are difficult to please.

Fish began to sing all over the music in Marillion. He continued to sing all over the music on his own, which I don't have a problem with, it's his music, I just don't listen to it.

Agreed that neither have been as good without the other. If you had asked me after the first couple of records, I would have said Fish(Vigil, Internal Exile). If you had asked me up until Feast of Consequences, I would have said Marillion(Marbles, Sounds). Now... I can't vote. Both are good, but Feast is Fish's best in a long time. Nope. No vote from me.

For those who prefer Fish, could you recommend the key albums? I haven't heard much of Fish's solo material. Cheers!
