Hi all-- I'm trying to locate a prog rock reference book for a friend, and I'm hoping his description might ring a bell for someone.  He writes:
"Unfortunately I don't know the title of the prog rock book.  I bought it at a Tower Records 15-20 years ago.  It's like a reference book that lists prog bands, where they're from, from what time (date to date), who was in the bands, and who they sound like.  I don't know if the book has been updated from the late 1990s."
For a physical description: [About the cover]
"It's reddish purple with different band logos.  Size 5½" x 8½", maybe 200-250 pages."
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thank you!

Thanks, I will pass that along (and a scan of the cover)-- hopefully he will recognize it.

If there's a better reference book, the ne plus ultra, I'd like to hear about it too, so I can suggest it as an alternate.

If the book he is looking for is not "Progressive Rock Files" he should give it a try anyway, it may be better than the book he is looking for.

I'm 99 percent sure you're looking for New Rock Record by Terry Hounsome.

That's what came to my mind when I heard his brief description.

Not sure it is the book they are aftet as none of the editions of NRR I have feature band logos. But New Rock Record is a tome too, a highly recomendable book that they would appreciate if they can find a copy. I bought a couple of copies of the last edition from Terry a few years ago so not impossible to get.
