Prog Metal.  Has it come time for a new Froum thread in the main section devoted to this genre? This poll is not to descriminate or argue about the music but to find out what you all think of this idea.

Now Vote!

Sorry for the spelling in advance. Need to retake typing

Because it is fast becoming the most popular genre.

But it`s strongly related with prog rock. I started with DT and with prog rock and metal being separated I could never discover Yes or Rush, it`s a good way to show younger proggers the roots of prog metal

Where's the problem? Separating forum categories would hardly mean that people stay in their own category. And the Prog Rock Lounge would be above the Prog Metal Lounge ... so it would be hard to miss new prog rock threads.

you know pretty well where the problem is; I pointed it out repeatedly. prog metal just doesn't merit to have a category of its own. it is just one category of prog like any other category too. period. there is absolutely no need for such an "extrawurst" (I like that German word)

"Non-Music Prog Lounge" But yeah I can't say that's a very good idea either unless they're not allowed in the normal section then I would vote yes.

Progressive Metal
Progressive metal (shortened to prog, or prog metal when differentiating from progressive rock) is a heavy brand of progressive rock which is characterized by the use of complex compositional structures, odd time signatures, and other features.

Its origins can be traced all the way back to traditional progressive rock acts of the 1960s and '70s like Yes, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Genesis and Rush, but progressive metal didn't develop into a "genre of its own" until the mid-1980s. Acts such as Dream Theater, Queensr˙che and Fates Warning took elements of these progressive rock groups, primarily the instrumentation and compositional structure of songs, and merged them with heavy metal characteristics attributed to bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. The result could be described as a progressive rock mentality with heavy metal sounds.

I dont think prog and metal need to be seperated, but the question is where the line between metal and prog-metal is, I think. Some bands definitley drift into prog, such as Iron Maiden, how can 'Rime of fthe ancient mariner' or 'Alexander the great' not be prog? It seems to be an ever thinner line between the two!!!

Not a good idea...there'll be tantrums over who gets some of the heavier progressive rock bands on their side of the divide...
