I am one of the few who actually cannot stomach Acquiring The Taste.....interestingly enough it was the first GG album that I bought (2nd hand) back in the 70s...I don't really know why I followed up and bought their entire catalogue after that!    I love(d) them to bits!!!

1. Acquiring The Taste
2. Gentle Giant
3. Octopus
4. Three Friends
5. In A Glass House
6. The Rest

The first two are in the 5 star ballpark and I could flip between the two for the number one spot any other day. Plenty of evocative moods on those two albums, and some serious rocking out. Octopus is almost in that same league for me, but just a hair below the top two. Three Friends and In A Glass House are both fine albums, too, but don't resonate nearly as well emotionally as the top three. As for the rest, I just don't really care for much that the band did after Phil left. He was the band's heart and soul and afterwards their music, while brilliant, feels too mechanical for me.

Still very much getting to know Gentle Giant after years of neglect, but at the moment this is the order I'd put them - will probably change over the next few months of listening.
