I will explain what I mean: I recently read all the reviews of "Pawn Hearts", and many people talked about "the guitar of Robert Fripp at the end of A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers". that is, however, neither Robert Fripp nor a guitar at all but actually Hugh Banton on the organ who does a perfect imitation of a Fripp guitar solo, in sound as well as in style.

do you know of any other common false beliefs?

Just curious.....but how do we know what that guitar part is? Is it explained on the album or somewhere else in an interview with an actual band member..?

Yes!!....  The band' Lunar Cape',  from Russia being a  jazz fusion band, according to PA... While certain aspects of their music can be jazzy,  mainly they evolve around the Crossover/Folk area, specially with the flute and those kinda of instruments.

How about Jethro Tull being branded as a prog folk band? They certainly have a folkish side, but are more eclectic prog, since they have influences from blues, classical, jazz, etc.

Dunno how common this is, but it’s interesting anyway. Thinking Plague’s “Les Etudes d’Organism” has a nice soaring guitar solo towards the end, and once when I wrote an article on the band, and interviewed guitarist/bandleader Mike Johnson for it, he informed me that Bob Drake actually played that solo, not him. (I had credited Mike for the solo in my article). Bob mostly played bass for the band.

Prog Rock was killed by Punk Rock. (!?) Punk was a three year fad.

Prog Rock was killed by their own record companies and the pressures they placed on Prog Musicians (largely to make pop) in a changing music-making environment would be a better explanation about the late 70s decline.

No. But it was the one that launched the scene and took the albums that were upping progressiveness into the fully formed subgenre. East Of Eden and High Tide both put out excellent prog albums before KC but KC actually got noticed therefore it's more of a milestone rather than an official first of the bunch

More like he ruined Genesis by joining the band LOL. Just kidding of course. Actually Genesis was one of the most successful prog turned pop bands. Financially speaking, they were laughing all the way to the bank while the other uncompromising prog bands were starving and eating dead pigeons for survival LOL

Yep. Prog was not killed but merely cut down to size. Punk already existed in proto-forms. Prog had its head in the clouds where the common folk couldn't fly to so it was inevitable that it would become too alienating for those at the bottom. These things are cycles and if you trace back all musical developments, they all go through life cycles but they never totally die out. Even jazz is still alive despite having been dethroned from top dog in in the 60s (as far as technically demanding music goes)
