'Live for Rutherford's unaccompanied bass solo.

Seconds Out for me. I would probably say "live" if it was a double and included SR though.

"Genesis - Live", imo Yes could not match the intensity of Genesis in this performance.

Last chance to vote on this one before I determine the semifinalists and who goes into the second chance heat. This one looks pretty clear, but how I decide who goes into the second chance heat is not yet entirely clear so we'll see whether the third placed album here qualifies.

Genesis Live
just needs to be longer! | Then get the Genesis Live box-set, it has every live album before Live over Europe. And so it has the first one... but it also has Live at the Rainbow (which I understand is not... or was not at the time... available by it's own). That one was (as I understand) from the same tour, and on the CD they only included the songs that did not make it to the Genesis Live album. But it's also included on DVD audio, and that one has the whole concert (which is at leas as good, if not better, than Genesis Live).

Only, even though Firth of Fifth might have been better too, having the piano intro left out is enough to not really consider it. And about Supper's Ready, it's better in almost all it's parts, but the middle "comic" section just doesn't work well enough for me... most of those vocals come out wrong, so that song being such a flawless flow of musical passages should not be stained with a not so perfect part within it. And actually, these same two songs have exactly the same flaws on Seconds Out, otherwise I would love them too (specially since I don't really like Peter's singing, and I find Phill a much better singer).

^Really interesting! I have always though that one album without Supper´s was their own decision! Hard to understand record company thoughts of that time, Genesis was just then really popular so propably that 2LP would have sold well!

Yessongs edges Seconds Out, but honourable mentions for Genesis Live (just too short! Imagine if it had been a double with Supper's Ready and other stuff!) and the underrated Yesshows. Keys is very strong in places, but represents a revival rather than the classic era. Best not to say anything about Three Sides Live - libel actions can be very costly! |
It was going to be a double album with Supper's Ready.
But the label was afraid they would not sell it.
As a fact there's one press of that double album released by Philips Récords Netherland (Philips – Matr.1: 6830 140.1 – Matr. 2: 6830 140.2), but was only promotional and reached the radios.
Would kill for that copy, but too expensive

Yessongs huh? Never got into that...
but Yesshows.. oh hell yeah... play that album all time. Parallels SMOKED the studio version.. and then there was Gates... AND Ritual
zero contest. .and forget about the Genesis albums... zero energy or fire.. ony good for insomnia man | Actually, I like many of the classic Genesis songs better on their live versions... but as I said, those songs were mostly on the Rainbow concert, and somehow left out on the original Genesis live release. And the strange thing is that mostly I like the live versions better because I feel they have more energy than the original studio versions.
