    Posted: March 15 2018 at 04:28
After devoting the better part of his early years to the piano, namesake frontman Doug Rausch earned his Ithaca College music degree & plunged straight into self-imposed exile. Disillusioned by how mainstream music had all but completely plateaued by the early 2000’s – culminating in an eye-opening stint at Sony Music Studios - he found himself in a decade-long campaign chasing a long-held musical vision of his own. Aside from select live engagements - including an invitation from Dream Theater's Jordan Rudess to perform at the first KEYFEST - all else was sacrificed.

Sounds more Neo than Symphonic to me.

Somewhat controversial rejection in Crossover with three straight 'no' votes based on the self-titled debut album back in 2010: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=69853.

That thread is still open, so maybe admins could merge the two rather than having a fresh one floating around?

Agree that this is definitely not Symphonic Prog, and I'd personally pass it over to the Crossover team again in the first instance for a fresh evaluation based on the new album.

Hi All,

In light of new RAUSCH album "BOOK II," I was going to resubmit shortly, but looks like you beat me to it! I will provide additional helpful resources below, and may I add, I would think to definitely be designated as crossover and/or neo (is it possible to receive more than one designation?). Symphonic only "at times."

Guests on "BOOK II": Gary Wehrkamp & Brendt Allman (Shadow Gallery), Mark Zonder (Fates Warning), & Ryo Okumoto (Spock's Beard)

Just running this one through here again now that the Crossover team is firing on all cylinders again. Rausch definitely belongs here imho.

No, Neo Prog is basically a Neo Symphonic movement that incorporates elements of mainstream into the genre, the sound is particular and easily identifiable.

Neo Prog is a genre easier to identify by listening than to describe.

And no post 70' is not necessarily Neo Prog neither bands influenced by 1970 music, a good example is Anglagard, it's 90's Prog inspired in the 70's  and clearly symphonic

Topic has disappeared from page one again without being spotted it seems. Trying to get a re-evaluation started here one more time, since the initial rejection based on the first album was found to be somewhat surprising by several people (including myself).

Hi Everyone,

Again thank you all for the assistance in getting considered in light of new release "BOOK II," just curious to know if anyone had an update?

Like the Moai statues of Easter Island, the fate of the 1865 Confederate Treasury, Turkey’s Göbekli Tepe and the Voynich Manuscript, the exclusion of Rausch from progarchives remains one of the World's great unsolved mysteries. Unlike the others, which will doubtless remain with us until the end of time, hopefully this one will soon be resolved lol! Big smile

Thank you Keishiro! As long as Rausch gets a second hearing for inclusion here, the actual sub genre for the evaluation to be carried out in is really of secondary importance. Neo will be more than acceptable I'm sure, if that is where this artist eventually finds his home. Big smile

The evaluation can be followed here: http://progfreak.com/Rausch-94354.html?path=pa/recentApprove Thumbs Up

Definitely not my kind of bag but it sure sounds like straight up prog to me. Genrewise? Somewhere between neo and xover, but I'm not sure it matters anyway as long as it gets in.
Best of luck.

The evaluation in Neo is now officially underway, with a definite 'yes' from Keishiro. Thumbs Up

There are theoretically two other team members still to vote, but one of them doesn't appear to be active on progfreak (last visit about two years ago), so I'm hoping a 'yes' from Luca (octopus4) will be enough to seal the deal.

A unanimous show of hands was necessary to get Rausch into Crossover due to the previous rejection in that sub genre, but I believe this rule would not apply with regard to a different sub genre from the one the original rejection occurred in.

So, hopefully one more 'yes' vote will be enough to allow Rausch to be cleared in Neo, but if Luca votes to move him back to Crossover, then it looks like he will remain suspended in limbo here for ever!
