Some transitory tracks under two minutes that instantly came to mind. Which do you think works best either as a standalone track or in the context of the album?

I've played the Focus, Jethro Tull  and Gong ones the most but I'd have to pick between "Another Green World", "Aigrette" and "Cariocinesi" if looking at tracks playing a more important role on their respective albums. Hatfield & the North for today.
"Larks' tongues. Wrens' livers. Chaffinch brains. Jaguars' earlobes. Wolf nipple chips. Get 'em while they're hot. They're lovely. Dromedary pretzels, only half a denar."

Acquiring the Taste.  I love this little view into the musical mind of one of the masters of counterpoint, Kerry Minnear.  I love those 70's synth only albums from Tomita, Wendy Carlos, Morton Subotnik, etc and this piece shows what happens when you lock Kerry in a room with a Moog.

Cheap Day Return is my favourite in Aqualung, although that album really hasn´t got any bad tracks.

Has to be Fugue by ELP. Always consider it an integral part of The Endless Enigma, but if it's being treated as an interlude, then fair enough. A lovely piano piece by Keith Emerson. I played it on the evening when I heard of Keith's passing, and I honestly had tears in my eyes as I heard it (what a soft bugger I am!)

Horizons is rather special too! Always expect to hear "Walking across the sitting room...." immediately after it!

Tull has so many excellent ultra-short tunes, I don't know which I'd pick. Take for instance....

Sure, but that's perhaps it's because the song is a direct lift from Bach. Can't go wrong adapting Johann.

Don't the Moody Blues have a lot of these short little interlude things? Not sure what else to call them.

So many great little songs on this one. Anthony Phillips, Camel, Genesis, Caravan, Etc. Love them all, but I'll have to vote for Jethro Tull. I love Cheap Day Return.

I agree, although both my CD copies of the album have Fugue starting in the wrong place.

oh definitely Introduzione... now that should have been expanded and explored...  I love the playfulness of that riff and especially that thundering 'tron.  PFM could pack more badassery in a minute than groups like Genesis could do in a whole album
