The Astral Platypus is a parody prog band formed by members of La Resistencia Progresiva Argentina (a conglomeration of prog bands from Buenos Aires, Argentina).

Each episode comes with an album which parodies the music of the era it's set. The first season covered the psychedelic beginnings of the band and it's transition to "create" sumphonic prog music. Season two covers prog most glorious days at the beginning of the 70's..

Besides making the music they made a web series telling the story of this (fake) group from the '70s and it's hilarious. The first episode of season 2 was just released yesterday.

The band features members from Plesiosaurio, Rodrigo San Martín, Souls Ignite, Vanished from Earth, Destino 101, La Secuela, Trigonal and Mindslave.

They have released three albums:

- Sólido (1970) - A parody of symphonic prog albums such as Fragile and Foxtrot.
- La Marcha del Ornitorrinco Astral (1969) - A parody of the fundational albums of the progressive rock genre such as In The Court or The Yes Album.
- Last Sunday Dawn - A parody of the psychedelic beginnings of most prog rock bands.

I have no doubts that this project belongs here, but which subgenre you suggest?
Curiosity killed a cat, Schroedinger only half.

I'm terrible with sub genres... The idea of the project is to have fun progressive rock in general so (like most bands from the 70's) there will be many different Eras to the band. The big and most representative one will be the 69-75 period, where prog rock (and Symphonic prog, specifically) was at it's commercial peak.

So maybe Symphonic should be a good fit for The Astral Platypus. Yes, Genesis, ELP, Jethro and early Crimson are all being actively mocked on this era.
