May as well run this one by you all as well. Did this one last year but i still keep finding new parady and comedy bands. This list is for artists that combine music and humor and intentionally so. NO stand-up spoken word comedy acts please. Thanks :)

I think that comedy can really interrupt the flow of a record. Songs like Tull's The Story of the Hare Who Lost His Spectacles really make the album, as a piece of art, difficult to listen to after a few spins. Zappa almost seems to undermine his genius by getting "wacky." Is there a place for comedy in music? Absolutely. Will it have a lasting effect? Not as much. Comedy is very of it's time and what was funny yesterday probably won't be as funny five years from now. There are, of course, exceptions. Just my take.

I agree somewhat and one person's idea of comedy won't be the same as another's of course. I'm not looking for only artists that i personally like. I'm just compiling a list of artists that use comedy in their music whether it works or not :) The title was just a quick little attention getter since Zappa made it famous. As far as Zappa goes i preferred his comedy when it was the main focus of the albums like in the 80s otherwise i agree that it could get in the way. Personally i like a lot of his humor but i'm a sick puppy

That's a good idea and one i haven't thought of. Since their lyrics tend to be in Swedish i have no idea what they are talking about but their demeanor certainly has a Canterbury whimsy. I could a lot of Canterbury for that matter since it excelled at humor embedded in greatness.

OH, thanks for all the suggesations. I forgot to add one caviot.
The artists have to be PRIMARILY novelty, humor or just ridiculously funny.
Those that have a funny song here and there don't count therefore AC/DC's Big Balls despite being hilarious isn't enough to save them from disqualification. Cheers!

I love a little playfulness in prog, it was one of the few genres that didn't always take itself seriously (just most of the time). I think of Ariel, Fraternity, Cartoon, Greenslade, Morgan, Area, many others .

The most important humor rock band in Finland was Sleepy Sleepers (they also have a connection to prog, their early drummer was Markus Heikkerö, who was also Haikara drummer). They really cause disapproval in the seventies Finland, with their sexist and all the way offensive lyrics and also album covers. Naturally their record company censor their lyrics and also even album names (third album name should have been "give us Karelia back" but they had to change it "Back to Karelia", because record company was afraid in that time it would have caused political scandal). Also their live shows were quite spectacles, there were motor bikes, televisions, in the begin they throw faeces to the audience.
Later when they got international attention they changed their name "Leningrad Cowboys" and then their humor change also much tamer.
Here´s song from their second album:

^ Haydn? Maybe he was a joker but his music was instrumental and personally i haven't found it comedic. Think more like P.D.Q. Bach and that's the kind of humor i'm going for. Something INTENTIONALLY humrous within the constructs of the music itself.
Sleepy Sleepers is definately an addition! Thanks, Mortte.
The rest i'll look into soon. I like The Tubes idea for sure. They were pretty hilarious! Cheers
