How about Yes?
Or for a good name with mediocre music, Estradasphere maybe?

GORGUTS is a pretty "wtf?!" name, but their music is very unique (especially and mostly Obscura) next-level progressive metal.

Band names are irrelevant, only the music matters.

And Estradasphere is awesome. Tongue

There is a band called Soul Enema, I haven't heard their music but it's a sh*t name (pun intended).

You can throw Gandalf's Fist on the sh*t pile too.

I would add Isildur's Bane and Rivendel to this list, since Tolkien-derived names always lead me to expect symph, neo-prog or metal, which neither band fits.  IB is highly eclectic but pushes more often in the direction of avant / chamber prog and Rivendel is dark avant-ish prog with psych overtones and plenty of room for improv.

To be fair in the case of IB they did start off in more symphonic vein, but it was so long ago that it's now really just a footnote in their history.

I think Bohren & der Club of Gore music is pretty great (although somewhat a one trick pony) but their band name is kinda dumb and doesn't suit the music they are playing.

Pancake is a rather funny name for a band but there is a German band with this name, quite good :)

Unfortunately

Eximperituserqethhzebibšiptugakkathšulweliarzaxułum

just doesn't have what it takes to live up to their name on their debut album

Prajecyrujučy Sinhuliarnaje Wypramieńwańnie Daktryny Absaliutnaha J Usiopahłynaĺnaha Zła Skroź Šaścihrannuju Pryzmu Sîn-Ahhī-Erība Na Hipierpawierchniu Zadyjakaĺnaha Kaŭčęha Zasnawaĺnikaŭ Kosmatęchničnaha Ordęna Palieakantakta [...]

Perhaps they can live up to their high standards on the next album.

LOL

Just about anything sounds good when you add 'sphere' to the end... Travoltasphere?

These days I think there are not new bands in odd names, at least they just don´t become popular. To me it seems before you form the band you have to make some "brand" to it, that everybody knows about that "brand" what they will get and no-one will be upset in anyway.

Jethro Tull, an agriculturist from the 1880's, as a name for a Rock band (sorry, but I don't think Tull is Prog Folk as many label them), or Spock's Beard for a Symphonic Prog rock band does not seem to fit either. The Flower Kings also, more of a name for a romantic music band, not Symphonic prog Rock.

The Swans are not very nice. Schoolhouse/Bent Knee are 2 others that pop in the head.

I've always thought Yes was a great name; short, catchy and fits the music well - maybe not so great for Googling, but that wasn't really a concern at the time. It's a pity that short names like that are getting used up and bands have to start coming up with weirder, more complex names; I've never been a huge fan of longer band names.
