Which Hawkwind, though ?
Pre, say, 1976 or the "Dave Brock retirement fund " ? Modern Hawkwind is merely Hawkind being a Hawkwind tribute act. |

I play Hawkwind more than the other bands....but it's interesting that PA only lists them and Nektar as 'space rock'. Gong gets lumped in under Canterbury and Brainticket under Krautrock.

I like them all although never given Nektar the attention they probably deserve. In total Gong is by quite a distance more important to me than the rest - but although the space rock-element is obviously there Hawkwind are the ultimate space rockers. Still voted for Gong though.

Between Gong and Hawkwind, I'd have to go with Gong because I got tired of Hawkwind recycling the same songs (e.g. Master of the Universe, Spirit of the Age, Brainstorm, Sonic Attack -- to name just a few) over multiple different releases. I always felt somewhat cheated after buying their CDs. And I really enjoy the whole spacey weirdness and mythology behind Gong's productions, so it's a Gong vote for me.

Very hard competition between Hawkwind & Gong: Gong won. I prefer Gong later albums to Hawkwind later albums, although Gong hasn´t made any as great album as Warrior on the edge of time.

I can't vote for Hawkwind, though I know I should.
At a young impressionable age, I went to see them in concert and, at one point, I found my face quite close to Stacia's breasts. This left me permanently traumatised as I have rarely seen so much flesh so close and it was not attractive. So no vote for leaving me mentally scarred. And the concert was dreadful, too.

Hawkwind just ahead of Gong, saw Hawkwind in the 80's with Brock, Turner, Bainbridge & Lloyd-Langton, unfortunately no Stacie, they were outstanding.
