Cave In

I have a track by a band called Cave In on a progressive rock compilation. Judging by the one track, they sound pretty good, although I am not certain that they are progressive. Does anyone know anything about them? Are they progressive? Have they made any albums?

I have a few Cave In albums they started off as a alternative hardcore rock band but finding themselves musically restricted they have progressed to very slightly to more melodic space rock sound in some tracks in their last  two albums 'Jupiter' and 'Antenna'. They do have a distinctive sound but i find they can be a little repetitive and tedious at times. Saying that they are not really progressive bar a few tracks, they are a kind of combination of alt rock/ thrash metal/ Art Rock and maybe 5% prog!  i particularly like their tune 'Seafrost which is kinda spaced out and has some beautiful haunting vocals.

Id recommend their most recent album Antenna, its one i do still listen to every now and again, they have released a recent album this year but ive no idea what thats like.

Goosey aren't you getting Oceansize muddled up with the excellent band Oceansize?

 

Did they do a tour with Oceansize or something? For some reason I've been associating the names together

For some reason, Cave In seem to be a bit underrated. I feel that the album "Jupiter" has been one of the more unique and well-crafted post 2000 releases. It exhibits a spacey feel, making the title apt, and also yields hints of prog. on songs like " Big Riff", "Requiem", and "New Moon." Their other releases following jupiter have been more straight-forward, but enjoyable albeit. Stephen Brodsky's unique voice and the heavy drums used are two of the feautures that really distinguish Cave In.

Ive just got their new album Perfect Pitch Black today on first listen they seemed to have gone back to being a lot heavier, its a lot more agressive than Jupiter and Antenna, although the second half of the album lightens up a bit and is more melodic.

Not sure about it, hmm this album could be a grower..

Jupiter seems to be the album. I thought it was prog when it came out long before I came across the constraints set forth on this site. Heavy, but quite intricate and moody.
