Nevermind the title of this thread.

I've seen the Top 100 Most Popular Titles on this site, and Larks' Tongues In Aspic is placed much lower than ITCOTKC, even lower than Red. Now, that inspired me to start this thread because when it comes to the Crimson King my most beloved album is of course:


Larks

havn't heard larks tounge in aspic yet 

i have the other two - red is probably better than ITCOTCK but ITCOTCK is amazing too.

In The Court of the Crimson King is my favourite album, not just by King Crimson, but by any band! However, Larks Tongues in Aspic is equally important, innovative etc and Red is like the conclusion of what those two albums began.

It's one hell of a trio of albums, thats for sure! But my choice is 'In the Court'.

In the Court of the Crimson King is easily my fave KC album.

Lark's has its moments.

Same with Red, notable 'Starless'.

I love Larks', but my problem with it lies in one particular area...  the studio version of Easy Money lacks the humorous lyrics found on possibly every single live recording of that song, ever.

I still don't have ITCOTCK but I do love Larks' Tongues in Aspic (the record, that is! ) just a little bit more than Red. Starless is astoundingly good but Larks' as an entire listening experience edges out Red.

i love all Crimson Albums, but my Fav. of those 3 is Red.. all the songs are unique, specially Starless
Most listened albums last week

Let me quote a review I recently read in Polish "Teraz Rock" ("Rock Now!") magazine:

"And what if I wrote that Red was the best rock album ever made"

You could find progressive albums that are equal to either ITCOTCK ("Selling England By The Pound", "Close To The Edge" to mention symphonic prog) or Larks' (works of Van Der Graaf Generator from H To He Who Am The Only One to World Record, except for instrumental-only pieces). However I haven't found something similar to Red as an album which preceded its times.

Out of those, Red with Larks a vvvvv close second. Lizard and Discipline are my all-time faves though.

I absolutely love LTIA, and after all these years, I'm not sure why.  Maybe it is the investment I put into it.  I must've listened to it about 50 times before I started to really appreciate it.  However, there are parts that I find drag a little too much, such as the violin solo in LTIA Pt. 1, and the Talking Drum sounds a little drawn out.  In addition, the first part of Easy Money before the instrumental has never appealed to me.

In spite of these shortcomings, there is something that strongly draws me to this disc.  Something about the total package, right up to the fascinating album cover, has always intrigued me.

Next to GG's 'Octopus', I may well list this as my next favourite prog album.  Just don't ask me why.  An enigmatic love-hate relationship at its finest!

Sweet!  

At least one person seems to like Larks almost as much as I do.

I actually might be the greatest fan of this album in the World.

From the start you have the first part of a mindblowing epic with schizophrenic jams called Larks' Tongues In Aspic. The second track... Book Of Saturdays, a lovely interlude highlighted by Fripp's delicate guitar. The next song Exiles (probably the best in the whole album) is also one of my favorite tunes by Crimson, and Wetton's voice in it has have never sounded so powerful and full of emotion. Continuing with Easy Money, we encounter some funny lyrics, weird tempo, hipnotizing middle-section, and a hell of an ending, this one is another gem waiting to be re-discovered by true prog lovers. Next track is The Talking Drum, a song that puts you into trance with its percussion and bassline, I've always thought of it as the mesmerizing "calm before the storm", that "storm" being of course one of the most hard-rocking closures you could possibly have for a rock album, I'm talking about the angry yet subtle second part of the title-track. With a colossal explosion of sound you're left there completely awestruck after listening to what I would call a prog masterpiece.
