Not Morrison, definitely. Any guy who looks like a bloated old man and OD's at 27 is not smart.

^ Agreed.   And I suspect Lennon, though a brilliant artist and fascinating person, was no more intelligent than the other Beatles or contemporaries as Paul Simon, Joe Cocker, Elton John, etc.

Played the 'Game of the Century" - but ended up writing 'I Was Tortured in the Pasadena Jailhouse!' Very sad, really

As for musicians I would say: Bill Bruford, Robert Fripp, Peter Gabriel and Peter Hammill. It's all just speculation. In non prog we have Brian May from Queen who aside from being a great guitarist is an astrophysicist.

In non music of course we have the current US president Donald Trump. He's by far the smartest president we've ever had. So smart that even the russians like him. Oh and if anyone agrees with me on that please send me 500 dollars to buy a used yes cd from me. You have to send me the money first though.

The smartest people probably wouldn't respond to this...

I have responded, which is conclusive proof that I ain't the brightest bulb in the chandelier!

Did anyone mention the late Stephen Hawking yet?
As far as musicians, Per Nilsson comes to mind.
