PFM is essential in their entirety. Focus has one essential song. PFM gets the vote.
I will however say I wish Italy was represented by Banco. |

Yodel apart, I've never felt any particular feeling for Focus, while "Impressioni di Settembre" and "E' Festa" are enough to justify all the love for this band.

But for Nederlands I would have chosen Ayreon or Kayak.

Focus are brilliant, though I do like PFM. However, not enough to beat Focus.

as someone of Italian heritage I feel compelled to vote for PFM
but have to vote Focus for Hamburger Concerto album alone.

Focus was ESSENTIAL to my progitude in my youth; so many high points that still leave me speechless. PFM are refined and sublime and fairly constant but they never punched me with the emotion that Jan, Thijs, Bert, Pierre, Proby, Phillip, and others did. FOCUS!

For a Prog World Cup, my choice would be Focus from the Netherlands and PFM form Italy, but in terms of preference, I'd go with Supersister for the Netherlands and Area from Italy. I do think that PFM and Focus are a very good match-up. I love both PFM and Focus, and at different times in my life, both have been my favourite band. Going with PFM. One achieved somewhat more than the other over a course of years, so it's indubitably PFM.

First round in this battle where my decision wasn't instantaneous. I love 3 Focus albums, but PFM from the debut, through both their Italian and English albums up through Jet Lag is a monster and gets my vote.

PFM... because math rules
3 6 star albums and 2 5 star albums trumps anyday regardless of ones level of mathematical education one 8 star album and a cute though complerely kickass novelty song...
