I like Knives but I'm in the UK, so I'm limited to 2 inch knives that don't lock!

not really a knife kind of guy...  too messy.. a gun is better for personal protection.

Long debate we often have... who wins close quarters... someone with a knife..  or one with a gun...

but to tie it all together...   this was my vote..

and my trump card to that debate.. blind the f**ker then put a round into him. Game over LOL...

Yeah I hear a lot about UK knife laws and how odd and sometimes silly they can be with the locking, size, and one-hand opening restrictions, and that whole "It is illegal to carry a knife in public without good reason" thing.

The good news is that I think the limit is 3 inches, not 2, and these days there are some interesting and good quality UK-legal knives being offered ~

I assume you can own other types of knives at home?    I hear Canada ain't much better, and I know knife-collecting canucks who have a terrible time getting companies to even ship them a old-time jackknife.

A knife for self-defense is a terrible idea.   Wounds, jail, and the possibility your opponent will obtain control of the knife.   And "knife fighting" is a fool's fantasy except when practicing strictly theoretic martial arts.   That said, there has been some fascinating tests showing someone with a knife can close the distance with someone armed with a gun pretty effectively.

Ugly business.

oh there is the famous Tueller study which is the basis of most close quarter tactical training with firearms.

21 feet..  thus we are trained to use the retentive position at close quarters.. every fractin of a second counts at distances closer than that.. yet most untrained shooters don't use that style and can be at a distinct disadvantage against a fixed blade at very close quarters.

Indeed, and other studies showed similar results.

Ugly, ugly stuff.

Didn't know you had a youtube channel.   2.8k subs, not bad.   Do you consider yourself part of the Gear community, or just a flashlight nut ?

I'm considering starting an EDC channel one day, seems like fun but work, too.   And I'd need the good equipment for filming.

3.47k!

I love lights in general since visiting Blackpool and Vegas as a kid, I've recently gotten into flashlights as they've gone from 600 lumens to 60,000 lumens! It's hard to explain but when you turn night into day or create a lightning storm it makes you feel powerful!

The latest light I've reviewed will blow the mind of anyone you show it to...

To be honest, even $629 sounds somewhat sexual. Not only does it include the digits 6 and 9, which when put together... you know... but also, when spoken in a certain way, it sounds like "sex tonight"...

... but it's probably time we move away from X-rated stuff and go back to talking about flashlights...

... thank God there are no kids here! ;)

Model 29 / 629's were OK but not for all day factory ammo use. When I was shooting - 20 years ago - I had a Ruger Redhawk, the five and a half barrel one (KRH-445) in stainless. Mind you, you tend to go bankrupt shooting factory ammo all day.

I once had a .44 explode next to me on the range. The shooter (inexperienced handloader) had just had the barrel cut back to just forwards of the ejector shroud. He'd had the butt strap altered to be more like a K frame. Gun came back from Birmingham proof house, he loaded up some 240 grain hollowpoints, but used Vihtavouri N340 instead of N110. 23 grains of it, compressed powder load. There was the sound of a wineglass shattering - the top three rounds in the cylinder detonated, the cylinder split in two, the top strap blew off and the barrel and frame were bent down to about 30 degrees out of true. We found the foresight fifteen yards away. He just got a small cut on his cheek from shrapnel.

I gave up shooting twenty plus years ago after the Dunblane shootings. Actually, I'm now a very big advocate against public ownership of firearms.

Well, exactly. I was just into target shooting.

Anyway, the thread will probably go off in a different direction, but, nope, guns and knives, not for me any more.
