Topic: Ruins Bassist Posted: September 18 2005 at 16:04 |
The brilliant Japanese bass and drums duo has gone through four seperate line ups so far, each one featuring drummer/vocalist/composer Yoshida Tatsuya with a different bassist.
All of them have been brilliant musicians, but for my money 6 string bass monster Sasaki Hisahi has been the best to date. Now that he's left, Yoshida has been touring as Ruins - Alone, sometimes using samples or (on a recent U.S. tour) playing with a different guest bass player in each city.

I've only listened to Hyderomastgroningem and Vrresto, so that means Masuda and Sasaki respectively.
From these two, I think I'd go for Sasaki, but that doesn't mean much more than the fact that I like Vrresto a little better. So I'll keep from voting.

Sasaki plays some of Yoshida's most complex compositions, but from the live recordings I've heard Masuda isn't far behind him in terms of technique.

Another bump. I'm hoping to get the voting - or at least the replies - into double figures by 2010.

Quite optimist I'd say....
Anyway, I haven't heard much of Ruins discography (only 4 - or is it 5? - albums) to judge properly.
