All of these essential Prog bands had interesting 2nd albums and, except for King Crimson, had not had a break through album and/or hadn't found their true sound yet. Which one is your favorite?
For me it's In the Wake of Poseidon.

With quite a few bands the second is my favourite (statistically that might be expected). I like all of these albums, but The Least We Can Do Is Wave to Each Other is a really special album to me.

Feels really weird voting for Genesis in this field but I have a real soft spot for Trespass.
VDGG would come second for me followed by Floyd & Crimson

Could have gone with any of these but I've chosen Time and a Word just because I have a soft spot for the album

VDGG and Floyd: great records.
KC: solid album but not one of their stronger efforts, consolidation rather than much progress. The Devil’s Triangle blows goats. Yes: not a fan of the use of strings and several pieces are eminently forgettable. Weakest of their first seven. Genesis and Tull: not a fan of either band, no opinion on these albums really. Voted VDGG. |

Then Pink Floyd. Great. Then Trespass and Stand Up very good. KC and Yes Second albums are weak.

Interesting poll. None of these are considered any of the bands absolute peak, but sans Time and a Word they all represent "magic" early encounters with prog. Guess I'm less and less able-or willing to put treasured albums up against each other, so here's my list: 1. Genesis - Trespass 1. Pink Floyd - Saucerful of Secrets 1. King Crimson - In the Wake of Poseidon 1. Jethro Tull - Stand Up 1. Van der Graaf Generator - The Least We Can 6. Yes - Time and a Word

King Crimson, closely followed by VDGG.
I prefer ITWOP to ITCOTCK. |
