Supper's more euphonious than Plague but does it make it better?
Pas vraiment. I'll go with Plague today. |

I really like Plague, but come on...

Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.

Supper's Ready by far. I could never get in to A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers.

Both very good I think. I'm one of the minority, while I like "Supper's Ready", I love "A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers" (and I far prefer Pawn Hearts to Foxtrot overall).
What happened, did they steal your lunch money? "The man of knowledge must be able not only to love his enemies but also to hate his friends" (Friedrich Nietzsche). |

The first several times or so, Plague felt very jumbled and random. I came to find out it kind of was; they spliced several separate jams together at the suggestion of producer (just like with YES), but it WORKS. Supper's Ready always felt, well, ready, to me . They're each masterpieces in their own way, and I'm glad to see so many great points being brought up about both!

Absolutely a no-brainer. Supper's Ready by at least 2.5 stars.
I love both bands, but I can hardly imagine I would love VdGG when I was your age. Even now it's an acquired taste. Van der Graaf Generator has a serious problem with epics, but their discography is almost on par with Genesis's. Edited by someone_else - February 24 2019 at 16:01 |

Exactly why I made this poll/thread. I'm glad others feel the same; these two are quintessential prog epics of opposing calibers. (for me). I can't fault anyone for choosing either. I actually always forget Lighthouse came out a year sooner than Supper's Ready!

I've read A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers described as the antithesis of Supper's Ready. Both are masterpieces, but in their own way. I had intended to create a poll of this pairing of songs because I felt it would be good indicator of the general type of music that the people here like.
Of course, my vote goes to A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers because it is more inline with the type of music I enjoy (not to mention that my whole identity on this forum is about VdGG). |

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

Supper's Ready, it set the tone for a lot of Prog which came afterwards, a hugely influential song.
