Cast the first vote for Supper's Ready.  (although I also like A Plague...)

People usually seem to consider Plague as a compositional mess but I think its dramaturgically flawless. While hm Supper's Ready - well I love it but never really feel the urge to spin it anymore. I always found the first part more promising than the full epic delivers as well. VdGG for me.

Cool perspectives. I assumed everyone would default to Supper's Ready.

Tough choice. Actually, not really. Love "Plague" but "Supper's Ready" is one of greatest songs of all time. The fact that I heard it when I was in high school and didn't discover VDGG until I was in my 20s gives it extra nostalgia appeal.

Suppers Ready is one of the greatest pieces of prog ever---even Peter Gabriel still loves it Shocked

Plague is a rambling pretentious whatever like a lot of that bands stuff

Easily VDGG. I know I stand quite opposed in this belief but i've never really liked Suppers Ready all that much. Just doesnt do as much for me as something like LLDOB or a lot of material from SEBTP.

Supper's Ready, it set the tone for a lot of Prog which came afterwards, a hugely influential song.

I've read A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers described as the antithesis of Supper's Ready. Both are masterpieces, but in their own way. I had intended to create a poll of this pairing of songs because I felt it would be good indicator of the general type of music that the people here like.

Of course, my vote goes to A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers because it is more inline with the type of music I enjoy (not to mention that my whole identity on this forum is about VdGG).

Love both, but Plague.

Exactly why I made this poll/thread. I'm glad others feel the same; these two are quintessential prog epics of opposing calibers. (for me).

I can't fault anyone for choosing either. I actually always forget Lighthouse came out a year sooner than Supper's Ready!

Absolutely a no-brainer. Supper's Ready by at least 2.5 stars.

I love both bands, but I can hardly imagine I would love VdGG when I was your age. Even now it's an acquired taste. Van der Graaf Generator has a serious problem with epics, but their discography is almost on par with Genesis's.

I think Plague is a compositional masterpiece but I still prefer Supper.

Suppers Ready. I find Plague almost unlistenable.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!
