Don't be so sure - many bands occasionally use a concept called polyrhythm - several rhythms played simultaneously, usually on top of a standard 4/4 rhythm.

How do you tell which signature it is? Well, just try to tap along and try to find which one of the beats is the "1". Begin with the easiest song that you can think of and then work your way up. Tell me when you can recognize 4/4 and I'll give you some examples of easy songs in more complex signatures or even polyrhythms.

Im not sure what song that is 10/8 but the reason there is 10/8 instead of
5/4 in certain parts of music is because the emphasis is slightly different. I
asked my guitar teacher and he gave me a very long answer telling me which
emphasis' are used for different signatures and whatnot.

Yep. Writing stuff in 10/8 or 6/4 opposed to two bars of 5/4 or 3/4 is mostly done so you dont' have to cut riffs or transitions or whatever in half when you don't need to. I mean there's lots of ways to write any kind of bar(s) of music, but i guess it comes down to either what has the easier feel or what's more aesthetically comfortable.

K, I'll do that. To tell u the truth that was the most embarrasing replies I've done so far. But I don't want to be embarrased about that matter anymore so I'll learn that skill.
