Oh, do I love True Norwegian Black Metal, and some non-Norwegian bands as well. I really can't decide which is the best one.

Pain of Salvation sucks tho. ( This is exclusively for King of Floss. )

And most of the black metal bashers I know have never even heard real black metal; most base their opinions on crappy wannabe-black bands like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth. Frankly it drives me nuts.

Do you think they'd change their minds if they heard early Mayhem, Darkthrone, Averse Sefira, Marduk, Krieg, Dark Funeral, Enthroned or the thousands of other real black metal bands?

I'm sometimes in the mood for some black metal, but then it's not true black metal, it's beautifully melodic stuff like "At the Heart of Winter" by Immortal or the crazyiness of Mayhem's "Grand Declaration of War". I can listen to the true, raw stuff, but I don't really enjoy it (anymore).

Death metal flattens 99% of BM anyway.

No, they wouldn't, and that pisses me off even more. People wouldn't recognize a f**king black metal masterpiece like Anthems or De Mysteriis even if it kicked them in the arse.

Immortal and Mayhem are probably as "true" as it gets..

If this is a joke, it's not funny. If you're serious, I'm just sad.

"De Mysteriis..." has some really cool riffs . And while the drum parts in Darkthrone are probably the easiest in the world, I'm sure no one would be able to play them the way Fenriz does.

Immortal and Mayhem are probably as "true" as it gets..

"A Grand..." is too techy and polished. As for Immortal - "Bilzzard Beasts" is almost death metal; "At the Heart..." is quite 70s hard rock in its vibe and focus on melody (of course it's still very much a metal album, only not a black metal one). The later stuff... from the little I heard, it is VERY catchy and polished. So both bands have albums in their output that aren't as true BM as it gets...

I think that true BM tolerates some experimentation, but in the end it still has to be raw and violent. I'm quite strict here - Mayhem, Darkthrone, Burzum, early Immortal, early Satyricon, Taake are BM, so is the 'Swedish school' (Marduk, Dark Funeral, Setherial etc.) but e.g. Dissection and Mork Gryning? I know Jon from Dissection is a fanatic, but his music was simply too melodic. Not that it really matters, anyway...

OK, so maybe three DM bands in a hundred don't exactly flatten black metal, they just knock it out. And it's quite doubtful if Deicide still play death metal, so don't start here.

But the rest of what I wrote is no joke; it's very true. You may carry on Walking the Path of Sorrow, Logos.

Just take some sandwiches with you, so that you avoid the Transsilvanian Hunger along the way.

Don't mention it. And I know what you mean - sandwiches are so un-black metal.
