1999: Dream Theater released their greatest masterpiece (according to PA ranking: 4,30): Metropolis Part 2 - Scenes From a Memory.

2001: Tool released their greatest masterpiece (according to PA ranking: 4,22): Lateralus.

According to your opinion, today, what is the most memorable album?

Hmmmm....

As a general rule, I'll take DT over just about anything, even Tool.

But I am given pause on this one as I think this site has scenes overrated relative to a number of other DT offerings.

Scenes from a Memory for me. I do think Lateralus is overall more consistent, but nothing really stands out, and it doesn't remotely have the same highs that Metropolis 2 has.

I would consider myself a bigger Tool fan than a Dream Theater fan all around.

I haven't listened to these two albums in a very long time, neither is a favorite from these bands.

I voted for both. I like them very much, for different reasons:

- the powerful melodies -> DT
- the great work on the rhythm -> Tool

But, to be sincere, I dont consider these albums absolute masterpiecese of prog - though they are very solid.

I vote Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory, it's a wonderful album amongst the best  albums ever made, even today after all these years it still has an effect on me (playing it now).

Tool - not a big fan but I have a lot of respect for them (and 10000 Days in particular is very beautiful). I do like that they seem quite indifferent towards belonging to a genre - metal, progmetal or whatever and create their music in whichever way comes natural for the lyricism and what they want to express. I can only think of Radiohead amongst other hugely successful mainstream bands who seem equally free, open minded and artistically ambitious. They're sonical universe is bigger and emotions at display more diverse which makes them unpredictable and more artistically interesting than DT (who are always semi complex metal in one way or another)

Of these two choices? Lateralus — easily. That's Tool's best album.

Dream Theater.
Scenes From a Memory is a great album. I don't like Tool one bit.
Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.
