the title of the Deuter track is actually "Mein Geliebter Berührt Mich,
Umarmt Mich Der Wind"; you forgot the umlaut. and either the title of
the Droban-Apherna track (I don't know that band) is wrong or their
German is faulty; correct would be "Das ist das Leben, das ist das
Reich, mein Führer". the Cos title is also wrong or faulty German; correct would be "Meine Maschine ist schön", with an "e" behind "Mein". oh the difficulties of flexion in the German language!

I'm very non-German, rarely do I experience schadenfreude. ;) Nun, wir können nicht alle fließend Deutsch schreiben. Other than one fanciful title that plays on Spock's Beard in my OP, it's all been copy-pasted from PA (I used the search feature). Most of these tracks are not in my collection. My German is not up to wanting to attempt to type out all those titles by hand (just searching for and copy-pasting them took a long time). Even in English I make many mistakes as is when I don't copy-paste titles -- like accidentally typing Giant Genitals instead of Gentle Giant, which is an easy mistake to make when one's not altogether on the balls. The Belgian COS' Babel entry is in my collection, and it is listed as "Mein Maschine ist schön" on my album and at other sites I've looked at, including at babyblaue-seiten.de. I do seem to recall you mentioning that about Cöß before, or could it be case of dejä vü? ;) |

Voted for the wrongly spelled (by the band, not Logan) Cos-track. Funnily I got ten mostly fantastic vintage Bollywood songs with Mein in the title

a little German lesson: the flexion of "mein" Masculine Feminine Neuter Nominative: mein Mann meine Frau mein Kind Genitive: meines Mannes meiner Frau meines Kindes Dative: meinem Mann meiner Frau meinem Kind Accusative: meinen Mann meine Frau mein Kind example sentences: nominative: mein Mann / meine Frau / mein Kind liebt mich (my husband / my wife / my child loves me) genitive: das ist der Ring meines Mannes / meiner Frau / meines Kindes (this is the ring of my husband / my wife / my child) dative: ich gebe den Ring meinem Mann / meiner Frau / meinem Kind (I give the ring to my husband / my wife / my child) accusative: ich liebe meinen Mann / meine Frau / mein Kind (I love my husband / my wife / my child) the gender of "Maschine" strangely is female (die Maschine), so according to this chart it has to be "Meine Maschine ist schön" Edited by BaldJean - June 08 2019 at 03:04 |

The Zaboitzeff one is brilliant! Some more German stuff that is neither prog nor anyone will care about here, however I like these: |

this is actually prog-related, so of some interest to people here. Heinz Rudolf Kunze was the one who translated the 12 Peter Hammill songs that appear on his album "Offensichtlich Goldfisch" ("Apparently Goldfish") into German

Oh yes, and he also toured with Anyone's Daughter and is on at least one of their more recent albums. Oh, and he also had a smash hit in Germany titled "Dein ist mein ganzes Herz", which... well, I have chosen to post the other one... PS: And I was in the audience when that live album was recorded.

Regarding the language lesson, I appreciate the effort and I wasn't disagreeing with you, but I have enough problems with the English language, and I'm a copy-editor. COS got it wrong, ether intentionally or unintentionally. Here I'd rather not let such rules cramp my style, and think we might all have more fun if we let our hair down more, figuratively speaking. That said, while generally I'd rather discuss the music itself in the list, and ones off the list, and make bad jokes along the way, I do appreciate various digressions. Actually, I tend to appreciate most any sort of dialectic. Incidentally, my son is teaching himself German, and he would find that interesting. He's in French immersion, but has this dream of one day moving to Germany.
By the way, I enjoyed those Lewian. I like quite a bit of post-punk, and that Geisterfahrer reminds me a bit of Bauhaus, Gary Numan/ Tubeway Army, and the Cure. |

^ No love for Herr König Krimson's "21. Jahrhundert Schizöid Mein"?
Okay, that's really pushing it, but everytime I see I feel like I need to try to make a joke. I voted for COS' "Mein Maschine ist Schön". I love COS, and Babel is an album that doesn't get as much love as Postaeolian Train Robbery and Viva Boma, but I love all three of those albums. Incidentally, when I do polls with many options, don't feel the need to check out or know much music by the list. I'm fine if people vote only knowing one or checking out few options when I have long lists. The only albums I own on the list are the Pierrot Lunaire, the COS, A.R. & Machines, CzesŁaw Niemen (which I intended to embed) and Thierry Zaboitzeff, I think. I wish I'd written down the albums names, since I have music by quite a few more acts on this list, but now cant't remember if others are on albums I own (as for Deuter, I do love D)... That Zappa is plenty of fun, especially with that live version, I think. Edited by Logan - June 09 2019 at 18:49 |

I only know the word "mein" because I sold an Eloy cd to a guy on ebay from Germany who I initially believed only spoke German. This was before I knew about google translations so I spoke to a guy at my church(I think his name was Ludwig) who was fluent in German and he helped me come up with something in response to what he wrote to me. It turns out the guy I sold the cd to spoke perfect English. Lol.

I'm glad you really appreciate it now. Even the lowly-rated Swiß Chalet has some value to me.
Funny anecdote. This is different, but I used to teach in Japan, and over here in Vancouver, BC I have been embarrassed when I would try to speak to people in Japanese and they would insist on responding back to me in English. In Japan I was popular with strangers wanting to practice their English with me. They'd come up to me, go out of their ways to direct me, invite me to bars, to bed sometimes to be honest, I liked that (being a stranger in a strange land has its advantages) How I miss those days.... I might say that I learnt of "mein" because of Hitler's "Mein Kampf (not a fan of it of course, but it's interesting from a historical perspective), but my parents who had lived in Germany for some years used German when they didn't want the kids to understand (in that way, and because of a good German friend, I picked up some rudimentary German when young). I did learn at a young age that it's better not to reference Mein Kampf when you meet a German, and even saying something like "Ich bin ein Berliner" is generally best not dropped when you meet Germans, unless perhaps you are discussing JFK. I am guilty of so many faux pas. |

A "Berliner" actually is a German pastry with a sugar icing and a jelly filling. Here a picture: So it is no wonder people don't like to be called that. Edited by BaldFriede - June 11 2019 at 14:29 |
