Greetings Prog Rock Lovers,

since I assume this forum is full of experts, I ask for your help in identifying a certain sequence of notes that I encountered at 6:16 of the song "Jordrök" by Swedish Prog Rock Band Änglagård (1992):

What interests me is the bassline at this point, not the flute part. I'm absolutely sure I heard it in a different, earlier song but I just cannot find it. Another prog rock song, maybe a famous Swedish folk song?

Can you help me out?

Thanks for your kindness.

I'm not sure if it's the same part you are referring to but I'm pretty sure there is something from Hybris that also appears on Epilog which was their second album.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm looking for something that was released earlier than 1992.

It sounds like a Tull riff ~ which is to say it reminds of Tull ~ maybe circa 1970 or so, albums like Stand Up, Benefit, Aqualung, etc.

Same here. It really reminds me a lot of the old Tull.

Ok, I now heard every 60s and 70s album from Tull. No success.

When I first heard hocus pocus I thought it was Tull. This sounds more like Tull than a lot of Tull:

From a stylistic point of view, you are all right. I just want that exact baseline.

My guess is that it is likely a Swedish folk song, if not styled as one.  I will ask one or two of my nyckelharpa playing friends if they know the tune.

The first 4 notes sound right. And the style. We're getting closer.

^^Rhythmically those phrases are quite different, different meters.   But keep in mind the riff is a pretty common  1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 -  5 ,  and then back down the scale.   That combination pops up frequently.

Different time signature, but the bass line is reminiscent in sections.
