while on the subject of folk/classical tinged groups, how about your 8 favorite Moody Blues songs. Don't worry about length, etc...Just one cut per album. This will be interesting!

An 8 cut album would have been perfect. With that aside, I'll go ahead and lower the bar a bit and get in some cuts from the more marginal releases
Go Now The Night: Nights in White Satin/Late Lament The Actor Never Comes the Day Gypsy It's Up to You The Story in Your Eyes I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band) I'll Be Level With You The Voice Running Water Your Wildest Dreams Vintage Wine King and Queen Celtic Sonant English Sunset

Nights In White Satin
Ride My See Saw Lovely To See You Out And In Question Story In Your Eyes Lost In A Lost World The Voice ..that was difficult since the earlier ones have far more interesting tracks for me...and I would have put on several from one or two of those... |

To be honest your list could have easily been my list. All great stuff. I probably should have picked the Voice for LDV since that's not just probably the best track on that album but one of their best ever.

^ You know, I've always felt that out of all the classic rock bands the Moody Blues must have the best or among the best deep cuts.

I changed "floating" to "Candle of life." No bad songs on that album though.

I don't know the whole Moody Blues catalog but here's what I came up with.
1. Nights in White satin 2. Legend of a Mind 3. The Story in Your Eyes 4. Question 5. Just a Singer in a R&R Band 6. The Voice 7. The Other Side of Life

I was going to mention the vinyl compilation This Is The Moody Blues released in 1974. That just about covers it for me.

I knew there was a Make Your Own Moody Blues Album thread out there somewhere in the forum archives and I just found it. I'm really looking forward to collecting together my favourite eight songs from eight albums for my ideal Moody Blues compilation and I have a friend who'll enjoy taking part in this fun thread too.

^ Driftwood’s a great one! Octave is a weaker than average album on the whole, but Hayward really brought his A-game with the 4 songs he contributed.

You can probably tell from my selections that I prefer the Moody Blues moody mellower numbers. I could have easily made it a double album if I'd cherry-picked my favourite songs from the Moodies entire back-catalogue of albums, but then again, I could always put together a Best of Moody Blues II compilation, featuring the best songs from their later albums, starting with Long Distance Voyager.

As promised, my Best of Moody Blues, Vol. II compilation will be on the way shortly, with another eight favourite songs from eight albums recorded during the later stages of the Moody Blues long career, but in the meantime, here's an autumnal bonus track from Jeff Wayne's War of the World's album.
