Mothers of Invention - Absolutely Free Not repulsive in any way, just pretty bland by Zappa's standards.

A lot of retro prog like Flower Kings, Spock's Beard, and Echolyn have some fantastic albums, but their albums covers usually look quite bad.

The Death Spiritual Healing album cover is epic! It's so full of wit and charm... always puts a smile on my face!

As someone in the psych and philosophy fields, I love, love, LOVE hearing people's interpretations of why they like or dislike art. Is there something about the "hard to look at" aspect present in other paintings for you? I'm a nerd so I'm curious LOL. I love surrealist art BTW.

Not prog, and from what I've heard, not particularly engaging, but I can't stomach the collective Bill Bruford Earthworks covers. Like Leroy Neiman paintings, hard to look at.

I actually would've agreed with you at one point, but I think the style of this cover fits well with songs like Misunderstood, the title track and disappear. I think they have far worse covers out there, but not all of them are good albums in my opinion so they might not fit the thread. I think Falling Into Infinity is a pretty awful cover for an album that I actually dig quite a bit, especially considering it came from the same guy who did Dark Side of the Moon, Peter Gabriel 3, Animals to name a few

This cover is quite ugly, but the songs sound like this: |

Also: David Bowie - Diamond Dogs The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds. Advanced, sophisticated pop and feeding goats? The Beatles - Rubber Soul. Never really been a fan of that photo actually. The close-up seems almost a bit agressive, and it is a bad representation of the music.

Not Prog but a pretty good live album (the cover speaks for itself).

Going for the one, Tormato and Big Generator although I'm sure many on here with the last two being "great." Duke by Genesis comes to mind also.

Indeed, different strokes for different folks. Although I prefer this cover than the When Dream and Day Unite cover.

There is not bad music, just different tastes.

Different strokes for different folks. I love that cover art. It’s one of my favourite DT covers. 😄 |
