Two albums released in 1973, two bands that played a mix of original song mixed with covers or renditions of others. Being it Jerusalem or Fathe of Day/ Father of Night. Both bands had magnicent keyboarders, stellar singing and a driving bear/beat/beat fruit.
So which do you Solar most to in your Salad |

2nd best album of the Earth Band, who will always have a special place in my heart because they started it all for me.

Man's fine, but theres only one ELP and BSS is at or near the top of their impressive heap. This isn't even a question for me.

Solar Fire is a fine album, I love it, but BSS goes above and beyond.

Well BSS beats everything as it's my favourite album. Toccata is a totally insane track. KE9 is 29 minutes of bravado sticking a middle finger up to the rest of the prog fraternity. Bold, brash, arrogant and just a tiny moment from careering off the rails and taking out a whole town. Careful , measured and looking over their shoulder were things that were never said about ELP. Manfred Mann's moment came with the glorious cover of Blinded by The Light imo.

Strange choice of albums to compare.
BSS is technically mind blowing, but it wouldn't bother me if I never heard it again. I enjoy Solar Fire more, so it gets the vote. Neither album is the best by either band IMO. |

Can't disagree with that, although Toccata is far better (and crazier) on WBMFTTSTNE - how they ever managed to perform that live I will never know.

There's 'magnificent keyboarders'...and then there's Keith. There's 'stellar singing'...and then there's Greg. There's whatever a 'driving bear/beat/beat fruit' is...and then there's Carl. ELP for me, please.
