2. Trespass
3. Nursery Cryme

5. The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

so many amazing albums I love and listen to all the time---chose SEBTP as it has a special place in my heart and no other Genesis album sounds like it---it has a magic from beginning to end.

I know, and well done for noticing my change of heart in my selections. Thumbs Up Before posting this poll,  I had a listen to all of my Genesis albums again and decided I couldn't possibly miss out "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" from my Top 5 list as it's a great album. Although I  particularly like their first album for its freshness and originality, I decided all things considered, that the five following Genesis albums were even better with the later addition of Steve Hackett on guitar and Phil Collins on drums, and also, Tony Banks' virtuoso keyboard skills were much more in evidence, so "From Genesis to Revelation" has now dropped to 6th place in my list.  Smile

I listened to the "Wind and Wuthering" album for the first time just before posting this poll and realised what an excellent album it is. The album is now next on my list of essential CD purchases to add to my growing prog collection. Thumbs Up

I agree and it looks like we're both right, because none of our dedicated prog fans here have so far voted for any albums beyond "A Trick of the Tail" in the poll. Smile
 
The weird thing is that the albums from "A Trick of the Tail" onwards were far more commercially successful than the earlier, classic Peter Gabriel albums. There's no accounting for taste though. Tongue
 
I think the final album "Calling All Stations" was the most disappointing Genesis album of all, because that album didn't even sound like Genesis to me. Thumbs Down

I think I've ranked The Lamb higher in the past... (and in general I tend to choose the more mature 70's works, but I think in those threads the question was more sort of 'What is the "best" album...' and in that scenario I consider the 'grand scheme of things', sort of, like a magazine stuff, consider things like number of songs, importance, and imagine presenting the album to a non-progger).

But now I'm on a weeks' long Foxtrot binge Tongue, (I've been introducing it to someone that is not into prog, and, in the process, relistening and analyzing it myself to exhaustion LOL) so... 

Watcher of the Skies... one (I) tend to dismiss it sometimes as is the sort of 'hit', number 1 track, etc... but.. oh my.. what a beauty.. the other day I played it in the back yard of a friend and trainer while I excercised (he's mainly into death-metal) and the mellotron opening got his stare lost... then, the 6/4 that turn into:

"an unusual polyrhythm part, where the staccato riff changes to 8/4 time, played against a Mellotron/organ chord part in 6/4 [following the vocal sections]"

(from the wikipedia). I also love the lyrics.

Then Get 'em out by Friday.. I've learned to appreciate it more and more for its originality and (imo) unusual structure… the bass…, Gabriel's singing, etc.; my favorite used to be Can-Utility and the Coastliners (still is), but now it has sort of been displaced a little by Get 'em...

Time table is a beauty (imo).

And Supper's Ready.. well.. also tend to avoid it normally because it's so especial (for me), emotionally also, and think I got to be in the mood for it.. but among other things seeing some 'reaction' videos has made me realize that it can be listened to and appreciated in different 'modes' or perhaps pay attention to different sections by themselves.

Selling…? love it. It often attracts me on the drums & synth jazzier side (e.g. Cinema Show, Battle of Epping Forest).

...And Then There Were Three includes the single "Follow You Follow Me"  as the last track on the album so it's bound to be worth giving the whole album a listen. Thumbs Up
