Recommendations for albums similar to Damnation by Opeth?
Something melancholic and mellow yet very dynamic and groovy

Damnation is rather unique, although one can hear Pink floyd and Camel in the music. If Then Else by The Gathering maybe. Discouraged Ones by Katatonia Maybe Antimatter, starting with their third album. |

Nordadust pushes a lot of the same buttons for me, though thy are more melodramatic in the vocals

^ In that case, also try Anekdoten’s Until All the Ghosts Are Gone as Ackerfeldt is a fan of Anekdoten, and that album s rather Camel-like in parts. It also has some Kayo Dot vibe.
Also maybe Lunatic Soul: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoDKYYXxxKg |

that Anekdoten album is a good choice, similar mellotronic beauty. The ending part of "The Writing on the Wall" is one of my favorite endings ever.

actually there are parts of Damnation that are clearly Barclay James Harvest influenced and BJH did have a lot of heavier themes. I'm thinking songs like "Negative Earth", "The Great 1974 Mining Disaster", "Medicine Man", "Mockingbird", "Summer Soldier", and "She Said" might fit the bill. But it's true that BJH had a lot more bright melodies than anything in Damnation, and their vocals are less monotonous

Thank You! I've heard of antimatter but never really listened to them, one of my new favorite bands. I'll have to give some of theses other recommendations a listen.
