Hi,

I still like the original albums and have them ... wonderful stuff ... and the only person that I know EVER played these things? Guy Guden in his SPACE PIRATE RADIO shows ... this band was one of the staples!

Thanks, M!  Back in the early 1970s, Chicago had an FM radio station called "Triad," and they specialized in playing space rock & avant-garde music.  They played some obscure stuff including bands like "Stratosled" and very early Kraftwerk.  I think it is likely they would have played this at some point.

I just found this mention of "Stratosled," has anyone else ever heard of them?

I wonder if Jack Daniels is the same Jack "Hawkeye" Daniels I knew in the early '70s? He was the guitarist for the "Shadows of Night" and I ran sound. I recall "Hawkeye" playing a Telecaster and he was a remarkable guitarist. After he left the Shadows he formed a space rock band named Stratosled, but I haven't heard about him since that time. I'll have to look up Highway 101 and see if I can see a picture of him.

Two solid prog  bands......I like Agitation Free a bit better but Brainticket is more 'dynamic'....more in your face.
Hard to find on original vinyl these days.....

The CD's by either band are not easy to get hold of either. It seems the only way you can buy the CD albums is online. I've never seen them for sale in record stores. Hawkwind is the only classic Space Rock band  I've seen in any our local record stores in Nottingham. We have one of only four Rough Trade stores in the entire world in Nottingham, but I've had pretty rough trade every time I've been in there because they hardly ever have the music I'm looking for. For instance, I asked them today if they had any CD's by YES, Genesis, Renaissance or Van Der Graaf Generator, but they had nothing, Nada! Thumbs Down

Hi,

This is a listing (not quite complete) from Guy Guden's Space Pirate Radio, for the first 6 to 9 months or so of the show in 1974 ... for the most part within the first year from the first show in January 1974, the complete "krautrock" scene was played and this includes the stuff from the Couriers and the other fun/crazy/stony stuff that some members still trash quite a bit as they were, apparently, completely ripped off ... however the feeling of fun and tripping in a lot of that early stuff is magnificent, and I'm not sure that it was given enough of a listen, before the media started the anti dope thing ... and all the ugliness around it all.

Edgar Broughton Band

^^ I wonder how 10cc ended up on that obscure and eclectic list of artists. They seem a bit too mainstream for a space pirate radio station. It's definitely the kind of radio station I'd like to listen to though. It's much better than our boring old BBC Radio 2 in England.  Smile

Hi,

Basically, the show was more about anything that was not American, and NOT PLAYED on American radio, and 10CC fit, and it wasn't until the Wall Street Shuffle kinda became somewhat known that the band really jumped and took off ... I look at it as a bunch of "art rock" at the time, and it fit because it was not the same old rock music with the same breaks and the same setup and the same damned solos.

When I reviewed Ramases' rare "Space Hymns" album recently, I discovered the four members of 10cc were the backing musicians on the album, although "Space Hymns" sounds nothing like 10cc. It's more like the kind of album you might expect the Hare Krishna religious sect to record. Smile

Hi,

I've thought of reviewing just about all of those albums from those days ... but honestly, I enjoyed them so much, that I don't want to ruin the great day and time ... with words that just have no meaning ... anymore.

Reviews are getting lost under the fabric of the corporation's top ten ... and no one bothers to read them!

It's sad, because at one time, around 50 years ago, it was just about the only way you could hear about the great films, the great new music, the great literature ... but today, none of it matters because all the news are about one goon, or one blonde. Anything for commercialism, I guess!

^^ I like to review the obscure, long-forgotten British albums (such as Ramases' "Space Hymns") that not many people know about, so I won't be reviewing any albums by Camel, Genesis, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Renaissance, YES, or any other of the big names in Prog-Rock. Smile

Hi,

BINGO ... KC I have reviewed their first album ... all the others ... I have a review of TFTO ... but I'm not letting it go until the day I pass away ... it's a huge finger to a lot of rock music! Bigger than the Mad Magazine cover when it told National Lampoon to take a flying leap into the steaming heaps of life!

This Agitation Free album is more Jazz-Rock than Space Rock and it's quite a departure from their usual style of music, as the album title implies...
