(This may have been done before but it's probably been a while.)

What absolutely non-prog band has a song that would be right at home on a prog album?

Here's mine...CSNY - Love the One You're With

It has all the elements, cool organ solos (think Jon Lord, Rod Argent), interesting rhythms (think steel drums ELP's BSS) , beautiful vocal harmonies (think Yes, Gentle Giant).

What's yours?

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik has "Breaking the Girl":

Even if it's been done before, it still seems like a good idea for a thread. Smile

dada "Puzzle" or "Ask the Dust"
also completely agree with Dire Straits "Telegraph Road, their live album "Alchemy" has progged-up versions of every song.

....just like I completely agree with the Dada choice you mentioned above.  "Puzzle" is a completely underrated album.

Another great one, at least in my opinion is Squeeze "Last Time Forever".  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a73nYXYiUj4) In fact, pretty much the entire album that track comes off of, "Cosi Fan Tutti Frutti", is quite progressive.  I first heard that album when I was working in a music store back in the 80s, and someone put it on.  I instantly hated the album, but now it has become one of my favorite albums by a non-prog band playing complex music.

One of the most obvious choices would be Elton John's "Funeral for a Friend", as well as the Allmans' "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed". A number of new wave bands also have quite a few "proggy" songs. The Stranglers, for instance, have almost too many to mention ("Down in the Sewer", "Toiler of the Sea", "Golden Brown", to name but three). Then again, I am one of those people who was in favour of adding them to Prog-Related.
