Magazine - Back to Nature

(though whether the band could be deemed 'absolutely non-Prog' is debatable)

Hans Zimmer's "The Battle March", from the movie, Gladiator, in the Symphonic Prog genre. Smile

Black Sabbath - Air Dance

Another great choice!  Sabbath stepping it up... even if overall NSD was one of their lesser albums.

This shouldn't be a prog surprise since Annie came from Renaissance.

Then again, I am one of those people who was in favour of adding them to Prog-Related.

Not surprisingly, Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding, is the only EJ song I really like.

What absolutely non-prog band has a song that would be right at home on a prog album?

Here's mine...CSNY - Love the One You're With

It has all the elements, cool organ solos (think Jon Lord, Rod Argent), interesting rhythms (think steel drums ELP's BSS) , beautiful vocal harmonies (think Yes, Gentle Giant).

What's yours?

there is a lot of CSN and CSNY that could be prog-ish. ..many of Crosby's songs Deja Vu Guinnavir--and Suite:Judy Blue Eyes--- love the band.

The Who - The Real Me

While I don't generally consider Argent prog, Lothlorien is a killer prog song.

I listened to Argent's Greatest Hits just a few days ago and some of their songs do sound quite proggy, including their best-known song, "Hold Your Head Up".

But Argent are prog. They are listed under Crossover Prog (which makes them fully prog, unlike Prog Related or Proto-Prog).

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

That makes at least two of us here on this thread who agree that Argent are prog then. Smile

Some songs that come to mind ;)

Donovan - Celeste
Frank Sinatra - What Time Does the Next Miracle Leave?
Scott Walker - Manhattan (..and many others!)
Arthur - Pandora
Bruce Dickinson - Omega
I'm guitarist and songwriter for the prog-related band Mother Bass. Find us at http://www.motherbass.com. I also enter stages throughout the Netherlands performing my poetry.

Gerry Rafferty - Standing at the Gates

Stellar musicianship, especially Mo Foster's bass playing on the outro.
