Haha, you rascal. That actually is a really good album though, so is Blind Dog.. In fact all of their first 7 albums are very good imo. In fact this is one of my very favorite bands. For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night gets my vote, what an album.

You might think I chose Cunning Stunts for the cheeky title, but I really do think it's Caravan's best album, having listened to it again just a few minutes ago. Smile

It could be that Caravan's self-titled first album from 1968 might be the first ever genuine prog album. I don't know of any prog album that precedes it.

Went with Girls, great album title as well as a classic from Caravan.

If I Could Do It All Over Again.

I have never found Land of Grey and Pink to be the masterpiece everyone else seems to

Is Freak Out! really prog though? It sounded more like Psychedelic Rock to me, just as the album title implies. Smile

Moody Blues Days of Future Past (Dec 67)
The Nice - Thoughts Of Emerlist Davjack (March 68)
Procol Harum (début) (November 67)
Family's Foll House (juny 68)

Caravan's first album was released in October 68 ...
Oddly enough Soft Machine's debut is from Dec 68Confused, despite future Caravan members replacing the Softies having left The Wilde Flowers...

Shouldn't you know this by heart, MrPsychoticPaul? Tongue

You're absolutely right! I should have known that the early prog albums by the Moody Blues and Procol Harum both preceded Caravan's debut album. Smile

It looks like Procol Harum's debut album from 1967 is the first ever genuine prog album then from your list.

I went through a phase recently of listening to In the Land of Grey and Pink on repeat, over and over - I like it that much. Second favourite is certainly For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night, which sounds very different to early Caravan, but still excellent.

Some sources cite HANSON & KARLSSON's debut album MONUMENT as the very first prog album although being from Sweden it probably wasn't heard by many outside of that nation.

I'm surprised "Cunning Stunts" has only picked up one vote (from me) out of the 27 votes cast so far. Smile

I guess i'm weird. I think Waterloo Lily is much more interesting than Grey & Pink which is too pop oriented for Canterbury Scene music IMHO
