    Posted: January 10 2020 at 13:35
The original intention of this thread was to help people come up with their "Best of 2019" lists.  The releases that I list here were only the 4 and 5 star ratings that I did for the year, not necessarily my "Best of" list, that is actually posted later in this thread.  I hope everyone will feel free to post their own lists here. Edited to this thread on 1/17/20
I put this list together to help try to weed out the best of the many albums that were released in 2019.  All of these albums were the ones that got either 4 or 5 stars from me, and unfortunately, since I don't know enough about Zeuhl, and since I don't always care for the vocal delivery on a lot of the Tech/Extreme Metal bands, I didn't do any reviews on them.

At the beginning of 2019, I made a resolution to try to review as many new albums as possible.  I had no idea that there were going to be so many of them.  Even averaging a review every day (some days I did more than one and on other days I was unable to submit any reviews, so it all averages out to about an album a day), yet I was still unable to even preview more that half of the new releases.

I hope this list is helpful in helping others put together their "Best of" lists for the year.  In my opinion, these are the best that I heard.  For those that don't believe that 2019 was a very big year for prog, I want to present these albums for your consideration.  I know you can't get to all of them, there is a lot even on this list which probably only represents 10% of the new releases.  I reviewed a lot more than this, but I didn't feel like they represent the best of the year.

Many of these albums will probably appear in the Search feature, as others have mentioned, but some are so obscure that they don't show up there.  Every one of these albums in this list, I feel, should be given more exposure, so here they are:

Tool fans will see that their new album is not on this list.  I haven't reviewed it yet, and since I am a big Tool fan, I want to get more familiar with it before doing a review.

Wow, great work! Thanks a lot!

Two albums from last year that I liked a lot but don't see on your list are Zolder Ellipsis by Tom Aldrich (RIO/avant-prog) and Old New by Tomeka Reid (although that one may be too much on the jazz side)

Thanks for sharing this. A lot of bands listed are not familiar to me so I have work to do.

But, Marco Minnemann didn't make the cut?

I really slacked as far as new music goes and I hope to keep up to date in 2019

I listened/listen still to in cauda venenum at lot and really like it, but I’m sure there’s better stuff from the year.

Last I checked it's 2020. So it may be difficult to go back a year. Cheers.

I only included artists that are listed in ProgArchives.  Unfortunately, I didn't have time to listen to all of the possibilities out there.

Sorry I didn't think any of his solo albums quite made it, but that is my own opinion.  I did put The Aristocrats in there though.  Excellent album.

I had heard a lot about this album, but at the time of its release I was unable to preview it.  It is one that I have on my list to eventually check out though, unfortunately, I was unable to get back to it in 2019.

No worries! I was just making additional recommendations, not expressing outrage over the omission of my favourites LOL

The Tomeka Reid is outstanding but clearly jazz rather than prog so not on progarchives. I'm listening to the Tom Aldrich now.

I only included artists that are listed in ProgArchives.  Unfortunately, I didn't have time to listen to all of the possibilities out there.

No worries! I was just making additional recommendations, not expressing outrage over the omission of my favourites LOL

No problem.  I'm always open to suggestions and discovering new artists.  Thank you for your suggestions, they are always welcome.

My favourite of this 2019 albums has been Jukka Gustavson´s great Prognosis. Jambinai´s new was of course also great, so was Magma´s Zess, liked also Gong´s new although really not their greatest. Other albums are non-prog, anyway 2019 was greater new album year than 2018.

Steve Hackett - At The Edge of Light. That is a phenomenal work but i seem to be the only one who thinks that. It's great old school pompous prog at it's best imo.

I also love the Thieves Kitchen album  Genius Loci. Very suprised not see that on such a long list.

I can also safely disregard a neo prog list that doesn't include IQ.

I'm not a big fan of IQ.  That happens.  There are some great neo-prog albums out there that don't have IQ's name on them, so don't disregard it just because of that.
