Just wondering -- how many of us listen to prog and only prog? I suspect the answer is few, but I may be way off base, who knows? If you do listen to other music as well, who are your favorite two or three artists?

I listen to various genres. I presume your guess is right about few people listening to only prog.
I like classical music very much. Beethoven and Haendel are my favourites among the prominent ones. I also like film and game scores, that basically utilize classical approach in their music. John Williams, Danny Elfman, Basil Poledouris, Jeremy Soule etc. I also am a big fan of 80s synthpop, like Modern Talking. |

I don't think you're gonna find many people here who listen only to prog. I think you have to be pretty relaxed and open-minded about all music to be a fan of prog in the first place.

Its probably 80% Prog or Prog-related for me, but... I still listen to some Classical, a lot less than I used to; Chopin and Bach are faves. I listen to some Folk and attend Contra dances; no faves, just what's playing. I listen to Jazz still quite a bit; Coltrane, Alice Coltrane, Claude Bolling faves. I listen to R&B, Funk/Soul, a little more than I used to (becuase I've been subbing on occaision as DJ for an R&B/Blues radio show) Some just regular ol' (or newer) rock/metal, no faves in particular. And small amounts of world, New Age, Reggae, Latin, Hip-Hop, or whatever else. A lot of this is because I frequently listen to music randomly, so any genre can pop up. No-one listens exclusively to Prog but practically everyone on PA (a specialist music appreciation site) listens to music that they feel reflects their aesthetic values. Which begs the question: why does something as unashamedly crass as this still sound brilliant to a 57 year old fan of Ginastera, Bartok, Stravinsky, Zappa, ELP, Crimson, Post Punk, Dub, Third Stream et al? About 80% of my listening is pure Prog, 10% Prog-related (XTC, Talking Heads, Deerhoof) and 10% is GUIDED BY VOICES!!! Long live Robert Pollard, the Wizard of Dayton, Ohio!!!

I like a binch of things out of prog and sometimes I need a pause. Ok, yesterday I've spent the evening on Pink Floyd, but I can mention Arlo Guthrie, Patti Smith, Some Italian singer-songwriters..(even if almost all of them are featured on PA), I love John Mayall and I listen to a lot of blues, too. I don't dislike metal. I like jazz but I'm everything but an expert and not often, but I go into classical music, too. I've had a period in newage and I still listen to Lucia Hwong, Mark Isham and with the time I've found many newage artist ending on PA as well, like Andreas Wollenweider, Michael Manring and others. In brief: prog is what I like but what I like is prog.

Me too. I listen to prog about 10% of the time, when I'm not listening to another hundred sub-genres of music. Only around 6% of my CD collection is actual bona fide prog.

I used to be all prog a long time ago, until I discovered that not all prog is really great, there are many other artists that produce excellent music and are better players that the prog heroes, there is a lot of inventiness in many genres of music, etc. All this made my musical universe wider, and allowed me to explore rythms, beats, scales, arrangements, orchestrations, in many different styles and ways that I never knew. I still love prog the best, but respct other artists that produce other kinds of music.

A lot of what I listen to could be described as being in the Prog universe or Prog related -- how much depends upon how loose one's definition of Prog is. That said, I certainly don't listen exclusively to Prog. I listen to plenty of exotica, library/soundtrack music, psych, folk, electronica, jazz and classical, funk and a lot of art pop or avant pop kinds of music.

Mostly prog for me. Other stuff I listen to includes, Chick Corea, The Bears, XTC, Joe Jackson, Alice Cooper, Jellyfish, Todd Rundgren, Steve Morse, Freak Kitchen, Simon Phillips, Antoine Fafard, Pat Metheny, Allan Holdsworth, Brand X, Lee Morgan, etc.
